What I am seeing in the St. Louis area after some nice showers here lately is much healthier looking crops.  The impact of the prolonged high temperatures without any rain during the month of July is that it happened right during ear development.....farmers around this region are figuring on low corn and bean yields.

Less exports to China................

I saw on the history site - Photobucket wants to charge people $400/year  to have the privilege of posting pics to sites like this!   ...   I guess they are soon going out of business.     Luckily I have the original of all my photos - just used them to upload to here.    Sad that the board is losing some great history pics though.

Yes, it is.  Like you, I have all of my own photos stored elsewhere beyond Photobucket although I realized a couple of days ago when ezguy asked about some photos that I had posted for someone else that I have several that I don't have backed up elsewhere.

I was finally able to get on PH and recover the ones ezguy was interested in but it turned into a bit of a challenge.  First, all I could get were the thumbnails.  Then I got the first 2 of the 4 with no hassle but then when I would open the 3rd and 4th photos to download I would get the photo like we're seeing displayed from PB about upgrading!  Frustration so I walked away a bit and went out and mowed some lawn.  I finally decided that if I would delete the PB cookies on my computer it might work.  I did that and had the other 2 photos in just a couple of minutes.  Thinking back now I also could have just used another machine...   one that I hadn't viewed MT or PB with for a few weeks...   or I could have just switched from Chrome to IE on the machine I was using.

Now, when I have time I'll go and try to rescue the pictures that have been forwarded to me by others and then I'll try to figure out my history photos and which ones I've posted in which location so I can work on reposting them.  Sorry, I'll probably never get the wildlife photos all done again although I will work on finding a satisfactory 3rd party poster so I can post the new ones I'm getting although it has been pretty slow lately.

We're seeing one lone deer on a regular basis every few nights.  Not unusual except the camera is very close to the house.  We have the pair of raccoons that seem to enjoy playing in front of the camera and day before yesterday we had a strange dog about 7 am.  Must have been just passing through.  I didn't recognize it as belonging to anyone in the area.

The weather is a little brisk this morning...    feels more like late September than early August!

Looks like we're going to have a bit of a roller coaster over the next few days.

It's 'fair week' in Monroe so I guess most anything can happen :o :o :o

I'm thinking about what to do with the cucumbers.  Those plants are prolific to the point that I'm giving bucket fulls of cukes away every other day....

Anyone want any????

CL did 15 (I think) pints of dill pickles, we eat cukes in vinegar with onions every night.  Been giving them to John (Joyce's Market) in Ottawa Lake..  and they just keep coming...

My onions are huge but the tops haven't dried off yet.  CL is doing corn relish tomorrow.  The garden is over the top this year.

Me thinks you planted to many cucumber plants. But in the past when most die off that's what you do...
I get a few every day.  Rutger and German Johnson tomatoes starting to produce.. BLT's tonight!!

This answer should already be printed on the survey.

Power out about 4:00 so the generator came on which made the dog nervous.  Power is back, dog is asleep and I'm up way too early!

Sometime after 4 I heard the dog up and pacing the floor...   must have been hearing a storm somewhere but I never heard it...   next thing I heard was the dog snoring...   he must have gotten up too early too ;) ;) ;)

I had a downpour that woke me but nothing else.  Looks like a little less than 1/4" rain

Well it's a 1/4 inch more than we've had...

we've had the sprinkler going on what we have of a garden this year...   the ground is very, very dry.

I've layed the hose down in the garden a few times and let it run for an hour or so each week.  It's keeping the plants alive, although the tomatoes are coming on fast now.  Cukes are still hanging on too.
Local weather folks calling for maybe lots of rain thursday.  I'll believe it when i see it.

We took a road trip yesterday up to the Shiawassee game refuge between Flint and Saginaw.  I had to be at U of M for a quick check at 7:30 am so we decided to just go on from there since we already had an early start.  They're working on 23 just north of A2 so we had already decided to return via 275 and then I saw that there was a vehicle fire in that work zone later in the day that messed up things...   glad we didn't try to go back that way.

We saw mostly egrets this time of year but also some herons and turtles and some geese that probably never leave there.  The egrets look like the same ones we see in Florida in the winter time.  I'll have to mark one somehow and see if they're following us back and forth!!!

When we were heading for the refuge we crossed the dual natural gas pipeline that Consumers Energy is replacing.  When we came back I just kind of zigged and zagged and crossed it several times on the way back to Birch Run where we got back on 23-75.  They have a lot of equipment and a lot of staff there working.  Part of the line is already buried and in some stretches they were still pushing back the topsoil.  The one thing we didn't see all day was anyone welding on the pipes.  Not sure if it was a welders day off or maybe a safety meeting...   just seemed odd to see all those miles of pipe and a flurry of other activity and not one person welding.

All in all a nice relaxing day for a change.  We took the dog along and he slept most of the way...   guess it was relaxing for him too!!!

Most are not manually welded today.  They have a weld jig that attaches to the butt sections and welds them to code then it's x-rayed.
