PFAs are poisoning our water
« on: March 10, 2016, 07:40:38 AM »

Wow...

I've drank a lot of water in this area...

a lot of beer too but I already had an idea of what the short and long term effects of that might be!!!

I wonder who will take the 'hit' for this one?

I am modifying this thread to change the subject name!

That settles it can't drink the water so will need lots of wine and beer...   going up to celebrate the Wife's Birthday at a B&B in the area

Didn't realize that firefighting foam was now considered a dangerous contamination for groundwater -   These foams have been used all around the US.

Lots of politics here too...

http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2016/05/wurtsmith_air_force_base_pfcs.html

Quote
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives said it wants the Defense Department to help state and local officials prevent further exposure to people living near Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, where some residents are unable to drink the water because it's testing for what Michigan officials call unsafe levels of a toxic compound.

Although the Air Force says it's already doing that, Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint, inserted the language into the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, the military's annual spending bill. The resolution-type amendment doesn't have the force of law, but is meant to express the opinion of a majority of chamber members.

"I have asked the Air Force as well as the state of Michigan to provide bottled water to those identified individuals who are living near Wurtsmith whose water may be contaminated by PFCs, at least until more research is done on the safety of their water." Kildee said on the House floor Wednesday, May 18.

And once it hits Lake Huron then it's only a matter of time (and fortunately some dilution) before it hits the water intake for Monroe and Toledo!!!

Don't worry, be happy....  If everything that could harm you was listed and avoided, you might as well crawl in a hole and die.

Rouge River probably dumped a lot more than Wurtsmith ever will.

Toxic chemical foam plume found at National Guard base in Alpena
« Reply #7 on: October 14, 2017, 11:46:29 AM »

This seems to be an all to regular story line...

Government facility polluting ground water one way or another.

Does anyone ever look 'forward' to the possible consequences of the chemicals they're using TODAY ??? ??? ???

How about Rockford, Michigan over by GR.  All the wells are contaminated.  The local school is on bottled water.

Didn't I just post a link about that?

Seems like you replied something about knowing right where the dump was because you had hauled steel to near there!

3M document shows Wolverine knew about PFAS in 1999

So now we're discovering Wolverine knew about the problems 18 years ago....   not the 18 months they've been claiming!

So now the chemicals are getting out of the groundwater and up into a nearby lake!

This stuff has now seeped into the Saginaw-Midland water intake and it's only a matter of time before it makes it to Flint (maybe it will line the lead pipes) and Detroit and then Monroe and Frenchtown and Toledo and eastward!

Looks like the contamination at Wursmith is just the relatively tiny tip of the very large iceberg.

I'm guessing our defense budget is going to have to increase even more to cover all the cleanup!

Bottom line with me is...  We live and die in an industrialized nation and because back when, there was little or no controls over hazardous chemicals, we now get to live (or die) with the aftermath.

Why I'm opposed to injection wells in Summerfield Township and Monroe County in general.  You pump toxic crap downhole and it's gone.  Question is, for how long and if it will ever pollute the water supply.  Just too risky.
