Nothing went wrong but I took 3 of us 8 hrs to cut down 2 Bradford pear trees yesterday, hauling away the brush and cutting up the wood

I quit hauling away brush a few years ago...  after I got the PTO chipper.  I make chip piles now.

At some point (most likely between 4-5 am) I hears on the scanner "La Salle Captain One on the scene".

I did't hear the dispatch or anyone go into service...

or any other chatter at the scene or them leaving the scene!!!

I was just awake enough to realize it wasn't here so I rolled over and that was it...

back to dreamland!!!

And just like that the 'quiet' ends...

Two men standing on top of their 18' boat which is completely underwater!  At least they kept a cell phone dry.  They estimate they're out about 3-5 miles and between the Fermi and the coalburner.  That's a lot of area to look for a small object.  The Coast Guard is responding too.

The dispatcher was able to get GPS co-ordinates from the victim's phone and is giving those to the Frenchtown FD responders.  Hopefully they can plug those into whatever unit they use (generic is Garmin) and navigate their boat directly to that point.  The boat will be moving some but shouldn't be out of view.

The victims are stating that they are in about 25 feet of water and the water is up to their chest.  They do have life jackets on.

The Frenchtown boat has located the victims.

Central had lost contact a few minutes ago although she did say that the victims could see the boats heading towards them.

There were a few times yesterday that things were crazy busy on the fire channel again.  Frenchtown had another water rescue at the state park...   a 12 yr old in his rowboat got caught up in the offshore wind and couldn't get back to shore.  Before responders arrived a good Samaritan went out in his kayak and retrieved the boat and the boy.

I heard a department being assigned emergency channel 3 at least a couple of times.

The call at Merkle's for the stuck elevator only took a few minutes.

Then the strangest call of the day was the last one I heard before I dozed off. I actually hope I heard the 'age' wrong on this one but my ears still seem to be in pretty good condition although sometimes the scanner gets a little garbled.

The call was at the state park (3rd one of the day) in the campground.  A 75 yr old man possibly overdosed on heroin!!!

Again, I hope I heard that age wrong.  You would think by 75 he would have learned the dangers of that life!!!  But, again, we are under a full moon :-\ :-\ :-\

I heard a call this afternoon (I don't recall where or what department) for an electric meter that was smoking!!!

The first thing that came to mind was that someone has one of the new remote read meters and they were having a problem with that.  I never did hear the results of the call.      I'm thinking there must have been some kind of a dead short beyond the meter itself.  I can't imagine what would be in a meter to start smoking either.

LOL   one of my friends "nightmares" was that we would have to come in after she fell in the shower!

Of course she was a looker and we assured her the response would be prompt and plenty of help would be there!

Does she own a shepherd?

Heard a call this afternoon just as we were leaving to head into town.  A tanker was leaking an unknown liquid in front of Jack's Lawn on Dunbar just east of Telegraph.  Also something about the rail crossing but it didn't make any sense (maybe I missed a few words).  We were about on our way anyway so I figured I go up Telegraph (I actually try to avoid it as often as I can) and see if we could see anything.  Not only was Dunbar not closed off we could still drive right past the scene...   a ditch full of the unidentified liquid with a fresh load of sand dumped to form a dam to keep it out of the drain or whatever it is that runs along the railroad tracks just to the east of there.  I'm sure if the wind hadn't been out of the southwest I would have known right away what it was but. That's about when we noticed that the railroad crossing lights were activated on the south stanchion but the north stanchion was on the ground with the crossing buck across the tracks.  The buck was up on the south one and the lights flashing but people were just driving through so I proceeded the same way.  When we came back the CSX truck was there repairing the stanchion and there were temporary 'STOP' signs posted and people were actually stopping...  probably because there was a MSP Trooper sitting about 150' ahead.  At that point I recognized right away what the identified liquid was...  not because I could smell it (never did in fact) but because I immediately recognized the equipment they were using to retrieve the liquid from the ditch.  It was the machine that plows the treated human waste into the farm fields.  Then I saw the sign on the tank so it left little doubt.  Again, glad the wind was blowing out of the southwest ;) ;) ;)

Check out the language under the photo...   Ray says a wench was used to move the crossing buck...  I think he means either a winch or maybe a witch ;D ;D ;D

Anot

Another story says it was "raw sewage"...

yes it was sewage but it's not completely 'raw'...   it has been treated a few times at the various steps in a sewage plant and then it is the remaining residue 'sludge' that is left over after you can't treat it or break it down anymore.  That material is then hauled out to various farms and injected into the ground as a fertilizer...

I wonder how much of that is what is turning Lake Erie green ??? ??? ???

Looks like Jack may be having a sale on landscape stone next week...   check out the picture 8) 8) 8)

The story has been fixed. It now says winch.
