Why is the traditional Christian way of life disappearing?
« on: January 20, 2014, 05:14:10 PM »

Just wanted to start a thread to discuss this.

Not going to lie, I wish Xerxes was here to have this discussion considering he is a former Christian and student of excellent discussions.

People are to busy?
The ACLU has done their best to take it out of the public view?

I can see the ACLU being a part of that.

I think it has more to with the access to information and youth questioning their elders.  Blind faith is becoming harder to find, and that could be good or bad, depending on the person.

Still it's an interesting subject to think about, especially in the context of post WWII history.  Sometimes I think about the youth of today and how they need to "toughen up" so imagine what my grandparents think of the new generation.   I'm not half the man that my father is.  I strive to be like him, but then again he's not a Christian.

The problem is this; Xerxes has undergone so many transformations that it's impossible to determine who he may be now.

Or, to cling to the same things one has always held, and argue from there.

Better information makes a better debate.  Yes, I have always held true certain things. I have reaffirmed many of those beliefs.  Regardless,  I will never be an atheist,  despite arguing for atheist points.  The atheist view is rational and based in logic, my personal views are not.  I continually question my faith to reaffirm it.  The same thing goes for my political views.   I question, debate from reason,  and continue on.

I think it's because it seems quite a bit of people these days are questioning their belief and faith. Different "churches" have been in news ranging from corruption, sex, turning to murder cults.
It appears that some still hold on to their beliefs and some change their thoughts about attending "church" because they may become dissatisfied not just of the way the "church" is run, but by the people that attend.
I've been to a few "churches" around and it's like a whos-who that attends.

Another thing is that a lot more people are questioning the existence of a God or they are questioning which God is the right one to worship.

My kids don't go to church.  We use to take them once in awhile but they just didn't want to go.
My biggest mistake was staying with my church on the other side of Toledo.  It was to difficult to take the kids and drop off for Sunday School etc, come home then go to church.
Had I had it to do over I would have transferred to a local church and the kids may have gone more since there would have possibly been some friends there.

Because fewer people in this generation practice it.
It has slowly declined over years and now so many other religions have bombarded Christianity in this country. It's difficult to practice those traditional ways when the government is telling us it's not "politically correct" to do so. They slowly took the Bible out of schools, then they took prayer, and finally took the pledge of allegiance because it mentions God. It's ridiculous and sad all at the same time.

When a catastrophic event happens in ones life, everything you thought you knew or believed in goes out the window.

I know I thought I knew it all until recently.  Now I question everything.  I don't find much comfort in Religion.  I tried but it only made it worse.

I don't normally comment on religious topics and I may get pummeled for saying this.

Although I wasn't raised Catholic I did grow up in a majority Catholic area.

Back in the 60s when we were 'discovering sex' we never ever even heard rumors much less read article about the sex abuse by priests.  It is now becoming quite obvious that this is nothing new that's happening...  it's only the fact that's it's being revealed that is new.  I can't help but think there may be a distinct correlation between the thread topic and these revelations!

I still don't know what the "Traditional Christian way of life" is, or if it's even disappearing.

Perhaps it's still there.  Maybe some people just don't recognize it any more.
