We have a foot on the ground and it's still snowing.

We're probably just shy of the foot mark but we had 3-4" before this last snow.

I just had the dog out for his morning ritual and he was confused by the snow rubbing on his belly.

I know he's been in snow this deep before but he always had the big red dog to 'break trail' for him.

She didn't mind the snow or the cold weather.  She would have been a good sled dog I guess.

Anyway, I'm sure she was laughing at him and his antics this morning ;) ;) ;)

We have just a dusting of new snow this morning but it is coming down right now.  It's been quiet on the scanner so far this morning.

That's true!!!

I'm sure they'll 'forget' their lessons by next winter though!

Just watching 13ABC Toledo news about the multi vehicle crashes yesterday around Michigan.  38 vehicles on K94 over by Kalamazoo...   closed down the road but no one was hurt!

I also heard about a big crash on 75 north of Detroit somewhere.  No details on that one.

More sunshine...

I could get accustomed to this 8) 8) 8)

Supposed to hit almost 50 in the next couple of days.

Still looking for the squirrels this morning.

Watched them play for a long time yesterday!  When we came home from town I could see one of them out in the road and from a distance I thought it had been hit.  When we got closer it ran back in the yard and up the Hickory tree.  Later, we went down the road and there was a squirrel in the road dead.

I'm wondering if they are attracted to the heat from the pavement or drinking the water out of the potholes ??? ??? ???

We just had about 2 dozen turkeys walk up our driveway.

I heard the dog barking his very aggressive "warning' bark.  I went to find him and he was looking out the back door.  That's when I saw the turkeys waking up the drive.  He kept barking so they started flying!  I still find it amazing that a bird that big can manage to get off the ground much less glide so gracefully.

We haven't seen them much in the last couple of years so it's always a treat.

I wonder how many turkeys are in Monroe county.  A few times a year there is a flock of them in the field off Secor south of Sterns. Could they be the some ones moving around looking for food.

I wonder how many turkeys are in Monroe county.  A few times a year there is a flock of them in the field off Secor south of Sterns. Could they be the some ones moving around looking for food.

Back when we lived up in the central part of Michigan and they had planted the turkeys a couple of counties north of us I remember articles saying they would be expanding their territory at about 5-6 miles a year.  From that I would assume that must be about the limit of their range in one direction so maybe 10-12 miles total would cover it.  So, I suppose these could be the same ones but I think there are a lot more than the 2 dozen around.  We saw around 70 of them all together in a huge open field about 3 years ago.  We have a friend about a mile from here that feeds them heavily so they tend to hang close to their place.

A few weeks ago I was on my way to the Lambertville Do It Best hardware.  I was heading south on Secor (don't remember exactly where but I was south of Samaria Road) and I literally had to stop while some took their time crossing the road.

The ones we have up here seem to be a lot more cautious when they're trying to cross the road.  I watched some one day get almost to the road 3 different times and then turn around when a car was still way down the road.  Finally the leader decided it was all clear and across they went.  Down there they seemed to just walk out in the road and expected traffic to stop for them!!!

I wonder how many get hit by vehicles in a year?
