Not everyone has kind words about Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to retire due to health issues. The late Pope John Paul II’s personal secretary appeared to criticize the move, pointing out that his former boss continued to work while dying of Parkinson’s disease.

John Paul “led the church to the end because he was convinced that one doesn’t come down from the cross,” said Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow, Poland, in a radio interview, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

In fact, he noted, “In those decisions he had always sought advice from Cardinal Ratzinger,” using Benedict’s name before he succeeded John Paul, who died in 2005 at the age of 84.

Pope John didn't exactly "lead" the church till he died, he was a bed ridden invalid at the end...The man couldn't even speak the last few months of his life...:P

http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/22/world/europe/pope-resignation-twitter/index.html

(CNN) -- At the same time as Pope Benedict XVI leaves office on February 28, his Twitter presence as @Pontifex will also come to an end, according to Vatican Radio.
The news may come as a sad blow to the more than 2 million people who've signed up to follow his tweets in nine languages since his account was launched with fanfare two-and-a-half months ago.

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica isn't buying that a pope resigned for the first time in more than 600 years simply because he wasn't feeling so spry anymore. Instead, a new report points to a juicy-sounding secret dossier ("two volumes of almost 300 pages — bound in red") involving a faction in the Vatican "united by sexual orientation," according to the Guardian. Those officials were supposedly subject to "external influence" from outsiders with whom they connected in a "worldly nature." A.k.a. blackmail.

AUSTRALIA'S Cardinal George Pell yesterday called on the Vatican press office to respond "in some constructive way" to reports of an internal investigation by three senior cardinals that told Pope Benedict XVI about an insidious web of blackmail, corruption and homosexual sex inside the Vatican.

Eh, they are as valid as any Pope's opinions.
