Funny how the late night talk shows seemed to miss that "news"...

Kind of a dreary day so far...

fortunately I've got plenty of inside or 'in the shop' work to do but I've sure enjoyed being outside working the last few days.

Is this the remnants of the last hurricane (I've lost track of names)?

Ford offers Explorer exhaust-leak fix
« Reply #2331 on: October 14, 2017, 10:26:21 AM »

I know I had posted something about the 'possible' exhaust leak on some of the Ford Police Interceptors...

can't find it so I'll post Ford's 'not our fault' work around:

Makes sense that all the after market wiring work could be the cause...   probably one of the most unregulated areas -   aftermarket add ons.

I know in the building construction areas - after building modifications of wiring/openings also is an issue.

It takes a few extra minutes and some sealant - to make your opening back to code/spec  but the technicians doing that work probably aren't given the training or direction to do that.

This frequently comes back to 'got to do it cheaper'...    that usually means faster and the way to do it faster is to cut corners!    Stuff some pink insulation around the edges and call it good.  Takes too long to cut a piece of drywall to a reasonable fit and then 'mud' it up tight!!!

What's wrong is it's not giving me much incentive to get things ready to head to warmer climate when we do get the inevitable (and probably sudden) drop in temps.  I did read that it's supposed to cool off tomorrow or Monday.

We went to Toledo yesterday morning and I was wearing a lightweight sweatshirt.  We ended up going to TSC and they had some tee shirts on sale so I bought one and went and changed from the sweat shirt!!!  Then had to put the sweat shirt back on before we got home last night.

Police: Bluetooth can be used to detect card skimmers at ATM, gas pumps
« Reply #2335 on: October 14, 2017, 02:16:39 PM »

I've sometimes thought there should be an 'app' to detect skimmers...

sounds like in some cases it might even be simpler than that!!!

A few weeks ago I noticed Speeway in Toledo had new chip/strip readers bolted on the outside of the pump.  Perhaps foolproof for a while

Guessing they mean you should go to the Bluetooth in settings and see if the phone is trying to connect to something, that might be a long string of characters.

That sounds right but there are some apps out there that will go beyond that too...  at least for Androids!

I could get used to this climate change stuff...

What's wrong with 70's-80's in the fall?

Sounds like at the very least we're going to have some gale force winds tomorrow.  The wind is already swinging to where it's coming off Lake Erie but will probably swing more to the north overnight and bring some cooler temps along with the strong winds.

I've got a fire going back in the back field so I'm going to walk back one more time and check it.  I had stayed there with it while it was burning hard and when I left to head up to eat it was down to coals.  The grass seems way too wet to burn so it would probably be ok anyway.  The stuff I was burning was fairly green although the leaves had all dried out.  I had to use my big propane torch (goes on a 20 pound cylinder) to get it started and then had to throw some very dead and dry wood along with some grapevine which made it really take off.  I'll check it again in the morning and soak the coals down if they're still going.

I found this on 13ABC Toledo's Twitter feed:
