Notice any thing new driving around Monroe County?
« on: February 03, 2012, 08:57:54 AM »

We went to Red Lobster for my mother's birthday Wednesday and we took Dixie home and noticed the roadway was more lighted and a guard rail was installed on the curve.

Yep. after I posted, I realized I should have added across from Carter Lumber. Curb side heading into Monroe.

Seems like I heard or read that the (stone? cement?) company there on the curve has been plowed into many times by cars and trucks missing the curve. Must be to prevent that from happening again.

When I was a kid, I was in the car with one of my sisters on a snowy night. I think she'd picked me up from Dixie Skateland and we were headed home when she missed that curve, but there was a barrier there then and that's what we hit. Thankfully no one was hurt, just a little fender damage. Boy, was she shaken up, though!

Wasn't a pedestrian or biker hit and killed there a year or so ago...

the lighting may have to do with that incident.

Yep.   Someone still puts flowers on that spot.  It makes me very conscious of the curve every time.

It wasn't that long ago when the council approved spending big bucks (around $20K ?) to have that guardrail installed on that curve...something about a vehicle damaged the facade of the Monroe Aluminum Products building.

A couple of strategically placed boulders would have been cheaper and more pleasing to the eye in my opinion.

Noticed on N. Telegraph just after Telegraph & Monroe St. come together, There has been some clearing of trees on on west side of the bridge. It looks like  a service road for the natural gas and it loos like its going to be connected to the old bridge on to N. Stoney Ck.

Yeah...three strategically placed vehicles along Nadeau Rd with signs in their windows stating "Do not disturb, traffic counting in progress"...or something similar.

One is sitting east of I-75, one is sitting west of I-75, and one is sitting right at the southbound get-off ramp of I-75

*UPDATE*
They were there at 8am and no idea how long they stayed but no sign of 'em around 2pm

Yep, that's where it is. First, someone ran into the corner of the building near the front door and just recently someone ran into the side of the building taking out a tree. It's not where anyone was hit, that's further south on Dixie. It wasn't too long after the guardrail was installed that someone took out a portion of it closer to their out building just north of the main building. It has been fixed just in the past few days.

I've just noticed the new signage for the city. Very attractive, useful, and easy to read!

Updated my prior post but figured I may as well contribute what else I noticed...

I noticed two natural gas crews digging man-sized but approx six feet deep holes at two locations in the area, one crew was just west of Telegraph on W. Hurd Rd. near the RR crossing and the other crew was east of I-75 on Nadeau Rd

I wondered if they were trying to find a leak...like maybe they discovered a pressure drop or something.

Over the years, Detroit has experienced lots of houses and buildings that just exploded because of gas leaks....and with the Washington story fresh in my mind....I'm reminded just how dangerous natural gas can be.

I saw one of those too, on southbound Dixie near Detroit Street. Pointed out the Battle Museum and a couple other places.

I checked that out on the way to Temperance this morning...

There are some huge trees they have cut on the Consumer's Energy ROW...

used to be they'd just take the top out of them but now they're taking them right down.

Too big for Ash trees too :-\ :-\ :-\
