Michigan DNR Fishing Report for August 6th
6 August 2009, 8:47 am

Trout and salmon fishing has picked up now that boats are able to get out on the Great Lakes. River fishing is good with the low water levels. Look for panfish activity to improve now that we have some warmer temperatures. Southeast Lower Peninsula Lake Erie – Fishing has been good in recent d...

Bottom Bouncers: Drifting for Walleye
6 August 2009, 12:06 pm

I had a lot of fun last night working the Monroe Evening News’s booth at the fair last night on the web site’s “Meet the Bloggers Nite”.  Got to meet some really nice people who blog on different topics and others who were walking through the great facility built/sponsored b...

Weight Forwards: Drifting for Walleye Pt:2
7 August 2009, 1:31 pm

Well I was right yesterday, a topic on drifting really is too much information to try and plug all  into one post.  Today will be tackle an old Lake Erie Favorite, the weight forward spinner.  More commonly known as an Erie Dearie or perhaps the Storm Hot n Tot Pygmy.  The Erie Dearie has been a...

Lake Erie Walleye Report for August 10th
10 August 2009, 10:24 am

With all the rain on Saturday, then spending the day digging out horseshoe pits,  my fishing over the weekend just didn’t happen the way I wanted it too.  Took a good look over the perch and walleye reports that came out, and all I can say is do not put your trolling rods away just yet.

Per...

What goes good with a fish fry…
11 August 2009, 11:30 am

Horseshoes of course!  Finally got around to putting my temporary pits in yesterday.  I would pick the two hottest, most humid days of the year to do it, but like I told everyone who said wait for a couple of cooler days, they are done now!  It was so hot, this is where everyone goes at once, how...

FLW Walleye Tour on VS: August 13th and 16th
12 August 2009, 10:14 am

I knew there was finally going to be a walleye tourney on television this weekend, so I wanted to check to make sure I had my times right.  Really glad I did, because either the first part or the first airing will be tomorrow night (Thursday, 8/13) at 4 pm on VS.  For the Monroe Charter cable area...

Michigan DNR Fishing Report for August 13th
13 August 2009, 3:01 pm

Heavy winds and storms have kept many anglers off the water. Pier fishing action has been slow. Fishing will improve with better weather conditions.

Southeast Lower Peninsula

Lake Erie - Fishing has slowed this week due to high winds and rain. Perch fishing that was very good last week could o...

More Tournies in Monroe Needed
14 August 2009, 10:31 am

Its crazy that there are not more fishing tournaments held in the Monroe area, considering  it is located on one of the nation’s best walleye and perch fisheries. Last year Matthews Bait and Tackle had one, it was a great time, good food, nice cash prizes, but they went out of business.

This...

Closing the Book on Walleye Slam 2009
17 August 2009, 3:35 pm

The chairs and tables are put up and I can say that the 2009 version of my annual clean out the freezer party was a success.  After cooking 10 lbs of chicken breasts sliced into tenders, 4 qts of perch and 10 gallons of walleye fillets, I am sincerely in need of some rest and relaxation.  There wa...

The Great Thing(s) about Birthdays
18 August 2009, 12:24 pm

Woke up this morning to rain coming down, so it did not take much to convince myself to scrap any fishing plans this morning and grab a couple of extra Z’s.  Course once you are up, there are times when any chance of falling back to sleep just is not going to happen, so I up I stayed.

Around...

Michigan DNR Fishing Report for August 20th
20 August 2009, 10:31 am

Salmon and lake trout fishing continues to be good when anglers can get out. Light numbers of salmon have started to move into some rivers however the big spawning run is still a few weeks away. Warmer weather improved walleye fishing.

Southeast Lower Peninsula

Huron River - Bass are still hit...

Smart things to do when you go…
21 August 2009, 12:55 pm

….on vacation!

First off make a list of everything you want to do.  Then make a list of all the fishing equipment you want to take to accomplish this goal.  Check the darn thing twice, nothing worse than getting all the way up to where you are going, and finding out you left  something vit...

Back @ It!!!
9 September 2009, 12:50 pm

Home from the Upper, why I came back to this hot muggy stuff I dunno,  there must be a woman to blame.  Think that’s how the Buffet song goes anyway.  Well she got her rock from Escanaba, and once again I seem to be in good graces…ugh.

Lots of pics of the national forest around the c...

Neccessity is the Mother of all Inventions
10 September 2009, 9:43 am

So here I am in the Super Walmart in Escanaba trying to think of things to use for catching panfish in the U.P.  I didn’t really bring anything in the line of rods, but thought I would rig up some slip bobbers on my medium light Avid drop shot rods. Only problem, no bobbers or thread, but did...
