  • The BRD in her 'younger' days... 2007.

This trailer must have spent  a lot of time on Michigan roads...

this is on N-bound 75 at the very south edge of Toledo this morning.

At least it didn't break the wiring harness to the tail lights ;) ;) ;)

Looks like we've had a long stretch of showing the bad days for the truckers so let's switch to the farmers!

  • "SHALL NOT be infringed". Got it?

Ya know, I look at some of those pictures, and I wonder... how in the hell did they get in that predicament?  Who drives a huge tractor through a mud bog?  LOL

And once they get stuck, who keeps on trying to get it out, while burying it deeper and deeper?  Amazing.

Don't get me wrong - I've been stuck a few times before.  But I knew once I was stuck, to STOP trying to get out without a little help.  All it does is bury you deeper.

When I was still very young my Dad taught me that as soon as you feel one wheel spinning you better be hitting the brake to that wheel and if the other one starts spinning then you'd better stop and unhook whatever it is you're pulling.  At that point you could just drive out probably 80-90% of the time.  We always had several long chains and I learned how to rig a hitch to pull from the opposite end of where most machinery was designed to be pulled from.

And sometimes you're just stuck too :o :o :o

A city down in the land of cotton had an old smokestack that needed to be taken down.  Sounds like their two options were to hire a contractor or use a city crew and equipment to do it themselves...   no idea who made the final decision but I'm sure part of the discussion included something along the line of "Oh c'mon...  What could go wrong" ??? ??? ???

Looks like they checked through the credentials of city staff and found that old Billie Bob John had lots of experience blowing stumps out of the back 40 so a 'plan' was hatched!!!

After all...   "What could go wrong" ;D ;D ;D

First they tried putting 30 pounds of DY NO MITE around the base but it didn't all go off so the stack was only 'crippled' but not dead!

So, they went back in and hooked up some more DY NO MITE...

I'm sure there are still plenty of the onlookers that are still mumbling "Oh C'mon...  What could go wrong" ??? ??? ???

Not sure why it still didn't fall after the 2nd round of DY NO MITE but I'm sure at that point one of the 'big shots' decided that the DY NO MITE wasn't the way to go...   or maybe they were just plain out of DY NO MITE!!!

Anyway, the next plan was to send that nice new city owned track hoe in to finish it off...

after all...   "What could go wrong"?

I will give a spoiler alert for the squeamish...

the operator only had a few scrapes (and maybe some messy drawers) ;) ;) ;)

I was surprised how long it took for their EMS to respond...  you can see their vehicles in the background in the beginning of the video.

I wonder who had to make the call to Komatsu to see if this would be covered under warranty ;D ;D ;D

In small towns of the Midwest and South you will see groups of city leaders get out and try and tackle something like this....and 9 times out of 10, a bottle of Jack Daniels can be found close around.   ;D

Talk about a bad day....how bout that Russian pilot whose plane was shot down, and then fired at while parachuting to the ground.  THAT is a bad day.

Agreed Fuzz, agreed.

Earlier this summer when I had a pretty major surgery at the VA Hospital in Little Rock (very good, contrary to rumors) I had a tuff recovery. Was easy to be frustrated in my body's response and easy to feel sorry for myself. But then I'd go out to the smoke area and hang out for awhile. Saw the condition of some of the other Vets there.

I didn't feel sorry for myself anymore.  :-[

Like I always instilled in my daughters, everything is relative in terms of what life has to offer.

Until you see worse in life that others life under, don't be critical and be understanding of the definition of "life sucks for me"!

I think that this may be the video:

Same event but actually a different video.  This one is shot from a drone and gives a much different perspective.

I noticed this morning when I posted the link from NBC24 in Toledo that the video was from an ABC station in Alabama...  I wonder if that has anything to do with it being pulled down :-\ :-\ :-\

Billy Bob and Jimmy Joe probably thought it needed taken down because they remembered as kids that there was a Confederate Flag on top of it and was just trying to do the politically correct thing.

I got a couple of good laughs out of it.  The original article said the reason they wanted it down was because they thought it was getting 'unsafe' and might fall over on it's own...   I would say after the two rounds of dynamite and what it took to still get it to topple that it probably would have stood just fine for another 50 years anyway.

I saw another article today that said the damage to the excavator was over $100K!!!
