Works pretty good to keep your underbody from corroding too.  Not just for dumping on dirt roads to keep the dust down ;D

CL used to buy those 'mosquito dunk' rings.  I told her used motor oil works better and is lots cheaper.  A cup in the ditch is good for a month.

Its great for getting brush fires going - especially when you have a bunch of used tires and some industrial conveyor belt in there.

Great for reducing blight!

That is a great way to keep the weeds down.

It also keeps the dust down on roads.

Great stuff - that drain oil.

Back in the days when Dow was working on developing herbicides they would dig up and analyze the 'why' of the fact that oil kept the weeds down.  Somewhere in all that chemistry that goes on so many fields is some of the used motor oil chemical chain!

I worked with Dow Chemicals with several different plastic resin bases..,,,,,,,they did some good stuff back in the early days of plastic development.  At what cost to the environment, not sure?

I suppose you can ask Schutte.  Isn't he related to the family?

Only burn that at night.  Then the black smoke isn't visible.

I never have heard another word about this incident.

I wonder who ended up footing the bill for the cleanup ??? ??? ???

Temperance FD station just dispatched to the American Legion Post in Temperance for another chemical or petroleum odor investigation.  This is right across the street from the old mill in the photo above and of course right in the immediate area of where they have been leaking.

A couple of possibilities I can think of is the warmer weather is melting the snow and ice and letting the odor that was there all along escape into the atmosphere.

The warmer weather may have created or allowed movement in whatever is actually leaking.  Hopefully the responders will have an easier time looking this time.

After Bill's Dad passed his Mom married pretty high up in the Dow family.

So, I don't think he's a direct connection but it's still not bad.

Again, I didn't hear anything on the scanner after first responders got to the scene.

There was very heavy traffic with other incidents so maybe I missed something.

Hopefully at some point they figure out what the issue is and exactly where it's located.

The real down side to 'smells' is they can drift a long distance from their origin.  Also, some people smell odors in different ways so everyone doesn't notice something.

Also, someone can smell it and call in the location and by the time responders arrive the wind has shifted even one or two degrees and no one can smell anything!

Like passing wind at Wal Mart.  You turn down an empty aisle and walk smack dab into a stench...... ;D  Been there, done that not pleasant.
