A city down in the land of cotton had an old smokestack that needed to be taken down. Sounds like their two options were to hire a contractor or use a city crew and equipment to do it themselves... no idea who made the final decision but I'm sure part of the discussion included something along the line of "Oh c'mon... What could go wrong"
Looks like they checked through the credentials of city staff and found that old Billie Bob John had lots of experience blowing stumps out of the back 40 so a 'plan' was hatched!!!
After all... "What could go wrong"
First they tried putting 30 pounds of DY NO MITE around the base but it didn't all go off so the stack was only 'crippled' but not dead!
So, they went back in and hooked up some more DY NO MITE...
I'm sure there are still plenty of the onlookers that are still mumbling "Oh C'mon... What could go wrong"
Not sure why it still didn't fall after the 2nd round of DY NO MITE but I'm sure at that point one of the 'big shots' decided that the DY NO MITE wasn't the way to go... or maybe they were just plain out of DY NO MITE!!!
Anyway, the next plan was to send that nice new city owned track hoe in to finish it off...
after all... "What could go wrong"?
I will give a spoiler alert for the squeamish...
the operator only had a few scrapes (and maybe some messy drawers)
I was surprised how long it took for their EMS to respond... you can see their vehicles in the background in the beginning of the video.
I wonder who had to make the call to Komatsu to see if this would be covered under warranty http://nbc24.com/news/offbeat/avondale-mills-smokestack-in-pell-city-falls-on-top-of-backhoe-video
