What I find interesting is ro-ro ships that haul automobiles (like Honda's) from Japan to here.  All the cars are below decks secured with web straps, sitting on their wheels (and I presume in park with the e-brake on).  Everything is fine until the vessel encounters heavy seas and rolls a lot.  If the cars aren't securely lashed, they break loose and slide sideways sometimes causing the ship to capsize.

Some interesting You-Tube vids of capsized ro-ro's and what it takes to salvage one...

Containers actually lock together at all four corners with forged  half turn pins and lock to the deck of a container ship, the same way.  Someone didn't lock all 4 corners on the bottom set.

If you happen to get a chance to look at a container trailer with a container on it, you can see the lock pins.  The DOT and International DOT has very specific requirements as to tensile strength and shear.

Look at the website I posted above on the tie downs...

https://www.aimu.org/aimupapers/OnDeck.pdf

The top of page 12 shows how bad the corrosion is on some of the older containers and ships and also how the receiver on the deck can get damaged...

probably a crane operator with a shaky hand >:( >:( >:(

Hard to make things 'lock up' in either of those scenarios ;) ;) ;)

It does seem like a disproportionate number of these stores involve semi trucks.

This was south of Toledo this morning.

I hope no one here has any 'special orders' they were waiting on from Lowes :o :o :o

One of the other TV stations had an even better picture but I can't find it right now!

Two Men and A (topless) Truck!

Glad it wasn't my furniture they were moving!!!

This happened up in Ann Arbor on Saturday.  Apparently this railroad overpass gets hit on a regular basis.  Interesting that the local tow guy doesn't think the city should do anything to reduce the number of crashes ;D ;D ;D

Here's another crash at the same intersection...

this truck was a little more solid and resulted in injuries!!!

Pretty good chance if you're drunk enough to hit a fire truck that you're going to jail for the night!!!!

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out there may have been some alcohol involved ;) ;) ;)

Various neighbors around here have had a display every night since Friday...

our dog is ready to get a whole night of sleep :o :o :o

My dog about had a nervous breakdown Tuesday night.

I'm thinking about talking to Zorn how this fireworks law was cruel to animals - and the owners that live with them.

Even my Pyrs had to come in the house. They were never like that before but the last couple of years they can't wait for me to let them in.

Our pup paces and pants.  Not too bad around here actually.  People are supporting the Chinese, maybe N. Koreans too.

Interestingly, my high powered rifles don't bother her as much.

We have some butthead south of here with a fixation for Tannerite.  (I presume a he).  They are always making huge booms.

Whatever blows your dress up I guess.

It's funny, if we hear someone shooting guns in the neighborhood, it doesn't bother the dog at all. If it's a full automatic, she will run in the direction of the shots and bark. No problem.

But . . if she hears the slightest rumble of thunder in the distance, or a fireworks boom from miles away, she goes into a nervous panic.

We have to give her a substantial dose of Xanax, but it takes about 2 hours to really kick in.
