MCANS: Monroe County Emergency Alert Notification System
« on: November 07, 2012, 06:20:32 PM »

I just got this in a tweet from 13ABC Toledo.  I know a lot of areas have had similar systems for a long time so I'm glad to see Monroe County is finally getting into the 21st century...

better late than never I guess 8* 8* 8*

I gave thought to posting this on the 'science and technology' board...

but figured it would get noticed more here...

maybe government and politics it might have really gotten noticed but would have been lost in a day or two :o :o :o

Just now or has it been available for any length of time...

I was kind of surprised to hear about from 13ABC Toledo rather than a little more locally :-\ :-\ :-\

No, not yet.  I'm kind of wondering if it will give me alerts for all over Monroe County or just in my area?  We'll see.

I didn't really see anything that told that info.  I've read some info on some of the others around the county and 'my take' on how they would typically work is:

A tornado or the Fermi leaking would go out to everyone in the county.

A school on lockdown or a leaking rail car or semi truck and a much smaller area surrounding the event.  I don't know how small an area they can define based on the info they requested.  Zip code would obviously be pretty quick and easy to do...   geocoding on a street by street situation obviously a more sophisticated situation.

Some more links to info on the system...

This article from the MEN explains a few more details...   interesting that if you have a landline you are automatically included!

Article with video from 13ABC Toledo...   Note the last line in the article...   won't cost the taxpayers a dime...   so is Canada paying for this too  8* 8* 8*

Its paid for by a "grant".  Just a wild guess that its a grant from Homeland Security  Translated: We borrowed the money from China.

And that's "until 2014"  which is waaaayyyy off--over 13-1/2 months!

They are doing a horrible job of explaining when and how its going to be used.  Every time there's an accident in front of Wally World, is everyone from the county getting a call?  And they don't even mention using it for natural disasters?

The county had the ability to do this years ago under a previous administration.  After he left, the new director put it on the back burner, or discarded it completely.

That's the usual talking-point that dittoheads often parrot...but I wonder...do you even know what that means?

This is what I see when I visit:

"Sorry Frenchfry, you are banned from posting and sending personal messages on this forum.
This ban is not set to expire."

No emails, no warnings, no communication whatsoever...just that ban

May be what happened to the other libs as well.

I guess disabling the report to admin link only on the lib side was indicative of the slanted games they play.

Enjoy your spoon-fed Faux News type right-wing echo-chamber.

Edited to add:

This is the only way to answer some of the questions posed:

1) I did nothing to warrant the banishment, it's political.

2) It's the router that's blocked but considering all the nonsense right-wing games being played by those running the site...it's just not worth it to bypass the banishment block.

3) The moron stalkers from MT contemplating a visit will be considered a threat and can expect to have a bad day if they act upon those idiotic thoughts.
