NBC's Dateline is going to feature a story on the investigation by around Halloween of this year.

On a side note...

does anyone have a positive (or even a guess) as to the location where they were filming this?

Appears to be inside a beer / wine distributor (or someone that keeps a lot of kegs and barrels around).  Since they were interviewing members of the Sheriff's Department it doesn't seem like they'd be that far away.  NBC studios around here are either WNWO in Toledo or WDIV in Detroit...   but I wouldn't think either of those studios would have the kegs and barrels.

Kegs appear to be Maumee Bay Brewing:

Those are 55 gallon metal drums, probably contain ingredients.  The wooden kegs in the rack I believe are empty

Metal containers are the 1/2 barrel kegs for beer (15.5 gal).

Wooden barrels are the Maumee Bay Brewing Bourbon Barrel Aged Total Eclipse Breakfast Stout:

Why would you store beer in a metal (steel) drum?  Would not the steel impart a taste to it?

Sanitary grade stainless steel is used in beer kegs.  I am not sure if there is an addition coating on the interior surface like they are doing in some craft beer cans these days.

It's stainless and draft beer has been in stainless for a lot of years.

My Dad never liked beer in aluminum cans because he could taste the aluminum as opposed to in a glass bottle.

Sanitary grade stainless steel is used in beer kegs.  I am not sure if there is an addition coating on the interior surface like they are doing in some craft beer cans these days.

It's been probably just about 50 years ago right now but I helped a friend build a water pumper dune buggy and he installed a beer keg mounted high and proud for the fuel thank.  His Dad was a welder and Dow had some pretty good equipment so managed to make it look very professionally done...   I guess it actually was 8) 8) 8)

We didn't notice any kind of liner inside the tank and never had any problem with plugging fuel lines so I'm thinking way back then there was no liner.  Today there may be though.  I did some googling on my phone while I was waiting for my wife again this morning and didn't find anything that says one way or the other.  Lots and lots comes up on the potential hazards on the linings in the cans though!

I just learned something about tap beer the other day.  I met a guy that has a business cleaning beer taps and lines at bars and restaurants.  Business is picking up dramatically.  He runs a camera thru the system and is able to show owner/mgr all the crud and bacteria build up in the system..
Apparently people aren't getting sick from tap beer. It's what's delivering it
