Title: 67-year-old missing Toledo man's car found in Monroe Township.
Post by: BigRedDog on January 01, 2018, 10:08:24 AM
Not a lot of details on when they found the car up here.  I didn't see any signs of an air search yesterday.

The man has dementia and even worse he's had multiple strokes...

but he still has a car and is still driving!!!

Not a good combo in my opinion.

I've already told my family to take my keys away if I get in that condition!  I'll probably be mad as hell but I've told them already!

For those not familiar with the area of Skylark and Tanager Drive...   south of Albain Road and west of Dixie Hwy.  Skylark runs right behind the athletic fields at the Custer school complex.  If you get to the big church at Mortar Creek you're too far south.  Going down Telegraph it would be right across the railroad tracks from Giuseppe's Pizza.

Hopefully he met up with someone and they dumped his car there.  If he's out walking from there he's mighty cold by now!

Here's a map to the general area.  This is a new subdivision (15 years ago) that still has a lot of vacant lots.  Also lots of open area within a short walk.

I found the tweet from Toledo Police Department that the missing car had been found here in Monroe.  They don't show a time on twitter but it says it was about 2 hours ago so sounds like it may have been found in the night.

I have the fire scanner going but it's been pretty quiet so far.

I may take the truck and go take a ride over that way...  at this point he could be 200 yards away or several hundred miles away :-\ :-\ :-\

I took a ride but no sign of him.  The car is gone from where it was located.

The Blade has an update but nothing new:

I saw that a bit ago.  That's south of Toledo but just off the freeway.

There must have been some indication when / where the car was found that he had left the area.  Maybe foot tracks in the snow leading to another vehicle?

This report says they now suspect this case was a suicide so probably not tied to the car in Monroe Township.

Doesn't sound like they've found him yet but the family has shared some info regarding footprints found near the car.

I spoke to the family of Flunder...hear about footprints near the car, and where they think he might be tonight at 10&11 @WTOL11Toledo

FOX36 at 10pm and WTOL11 at 11pm.

Hopefully they'll locate him by then!

I didn't stay up late enough last night to catch channel 11's news but I checked their website this morning and didn't see anything new.  I did watch their morning news today and they did have the missing man's picture up and indicated he was still missing.

Considering the weather, he's most likely deceased and frozen solid somewhere.  It's bitter outside.  I'm with BRD.  if and when I get to that point, take my car keys, better yet, sell the car, put me in a nursing home and be done with it.

Guess I need to change my picture too...

His body was located at the Monroe Public Schools bus garage on Albain Road this morning around 8:30.

When I went driving and looking yesterday I drove past the bus garage twice.  I didn't give it much thought since it's all fenced in and the gates were closed.  Apparently he found a place to get under or through the fence.  That fence is pretty tall to go over!

The news reports I'd seen yesterday had indicated that his car was found in front of a new home being built.  Then I saw one this morning that indicated it was in a ditch.  I had seen vehicle tracks in the snow under the big power lines that cut through the subdivision.  That would match the location for the intersection given in all the news report.

I just now used Google maps and their measuring tool.  From the scene I saw to the middle of the bus compound (I don't have any better location within the compound at this point) so I just used the middle...  anyway, I measured 2,613 feet which is 7 feet short of a half a mile.  He would have either had to walk a lot longer route to get around all the fences at Custer Schools or know how to get around or over or through.  It's possible he'd walked closer to a mile than just the half mile.  At this point I haven't heard any idea of what time this all may have gone down.  New Year's Eve, people out and about later than usual.  I'm thinking it may have been 3-4 in the morning when it was at the coldest.

I suppose we'll all just always have to wonder why he decided to pull into that sub off the Dixie :-\ :-\ :-\

I read through all the related article I could find online.

I found one article that stated that the car he was driving was his ex wife's car  Sounds like he got up in the middle of the night and just took the keys and left before she could stop him.

It also sounds like the story on WTOL last night was the family feeling he may have been on his way to his childhood home although they didn't saw 'where' that was.

It definitely wasn't back where they found the car.  That was a farm field until less than 20 years ago.

He was obviously confused by the time he got this far.

According to Mr. Flunder's stepson Flunder had no prior ties to the Monroe area and also that the car had run out of gas before he abandoned it and started walking.

Sad ending to a story.
