Title: Great weather...not
Post by: SidecarFlip on June 02, 2019, 09:50:02 AM
Got drenched last night, pretty typical.  3/4" in the gauge and got some hail too.  Every field around here is flooded, road is a mud hole (not surprising).  farmers are in a world of hurt this year and Trump's farm bailout won't help much.  I suspect a lot of local farmers will be gong tits up this year.

Equipment payments don't stop even if they cannot plant and harvest and most farmers around here have to have the latest and greatest machinery with the payment book...

Greenstone and other finance companies don't care if an operator is making money or not, the payments still come due and must be paid.  No money, no pay, tits up....

The only ones that can survive a bad year (like this one) are the ones with paid off equipment.

Of course then there is land rent that must be paid as well.  Landholders don't care if their land is planted or not, they still want their rent payments.

Bad deal all around for row croppers this year.

Even the winter wheat looks bad and most fields have huge bare spots where it got flooded out.

Another disaster year for agriculture.

Looks like Monroe County is going to be swallowed up by Lake Erie- again.

Bad deal all around, especially for farmers.  Going to distill down to mudding the corn in, taking a couple swipes with the combine and collecting crop insurance which will cover the inputs but not much else.
