I think you have to take baby steps because a lot of people still have "Reefer Maddness".  It's a good step but I see your concerns.  What we need to do for the next big election is try to get something on the ballot that legalizes it across the board.

While I applaud the sudden outbreak of common sense with regards to medical marijuana, I sadly suspect it's only a matter of time before it gets overrruled by the Feds.

Expect the first "licensed" pot-growing facility in Michigan to get raided by the Feds in short order.

Bastards can't see a ripe tax revenue stream if it shot them in the face.

It would probably pay for free college tuition for every child in the US.

Yup, yup and yup..

Not to mention it would actually leave room in jails for violent criminals and reduce violence attributed to drug selling/trafficking.

Regardless of any downsides of the legalization of marijuana, there are many people who are suffering whose pain will be greatly reduced by its use. You are allowed medication for headaches, allergies and arthritis, so why not to relieve the pain from cancer?

Because I think marijuana should be legalized across the board and treated as alcohol.  There are plenty of medical experts who see no benefits to using marijuana over other prescription drugs.

I think by classifying it for medical use, you create even more problems, create even more loopholes, and lower the public's perception of marijuana which can be evidenced by the pot dens in California.  This will result in a backwards step to the toal legalization.
