I would really like to see that soccer gets more popular so that we have finally a shot at a world championship.

of course we have already almost had one shot at the world cup in 2002 and the refs blew it. The US was playing Germany in the quarterfinals and Landon Donovan took a shot that went in but the defender standing inside the goal hit it out with HAND. Way to go refs. So technically we scored and it was a hand ball. Niether were called. The US would have gone on to the semifinals and faced South Korea, a team we beat previously in the tournament.

So how exactly does one follow soccer? I don't see the standings in the MEN. Very seldon do you see anything on Sportscenter. I hate to say it but their isnt any interest.

When I was in HS, soccer was played in the spring, if you couldn't make the baseball team..the thinking was ,there is always soccer.

Now I see its a fall sport, played by kids who, you guessed it, couldn't  make the football team.

I graduated almost 40 years ago and I don't think soccer has moved past the point that if your kids don't play ,you have no interest.

So is there a game I can watch on TV this weekend?

Is it soccer season now?

Actually a lot of soccer players aren't people who can't make the football team, maybe back in the day, but not now. Now soccer players are people that have been playing there whole life.

I do agree with you partially on people not being interested in soccer if there kids don't play. For example my Dad and the family weren't interested in soccer until I started playing, now he can't get enough of it. But I do know quite a few people who have picked up soccer just out of the blue.

As for soccer on TV and in the newspaper. Soccer isn't in the paper for a couple of big reasons, few people in Monroe care about soccer and there isn't a professional team in Michigan. The reason you don't see soccer on ESPN is due in large part to a bias. The NFL, NBA, and MLB attract large numbers so, of course, espn will air these highlights, games, and talk shows. Also you have idiots like Jim Rome on TV, who say soccer isn't a sport.

And of course there are plenty of soccer games including MLS(major league soccer) being played, but none of them are being aired on espn channels. This is the season for soccer, the seventh week of it here in the states.

If you do want to catch an interesting game you will probably have to wait until May 28th for the meeting between Chivas and Chicago on espn.

Cannot wait for Man U vs. Barca. Great matchup between Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.

Team USA just upset number 1 ranked Spain in the Condfederations Cup. Spain was unbeaten in its last 35 matchs. Only three of those games were ties.

So now the question is whether the United States has earned a shred of respect from other countries.

It was fun to watch, but I think it will take some more success on a consistent basis to earn respect.  From what I am reading, most around the world look at this victory as a one-time fluke.  A good run in the World Cup would be awesome and earn some respect, but it is, unfortunately, unlikely.
