I am just curious as to who designates what category a business gets placed in?  Do the business owners place it?  For example, Floral City Beverage is listed under Garden Centers?  That is a new one.  If the Admin does it, they need to be a little more conscious as to what they are doing.

The database was purchased from a company that mainly sells business listing databases to phone book companies.   There are over 5,000 Monroe County businesses listed, so we can't possibly ensure all of them are in the correct category, or still in business, although when we see them we fix them right away.   Within the business profile of each listing, there is a "report listing" link.   If you see one that is out of place, out of business or needs updating, please let us know!    Thanks.

I am sorry, but I have searched several times for the "report listing" link and cannot find it.  I realize I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, so maybe it needs to be made a little more user friendly.  I went to each company listed (wrongly, I might add), and tried to find this reort listing link, but could not do so.  Went to the categoryt, with no success, so I guess, I need help.  My business is totally listed incorrectly, so If I cannot find a way to get it corrected, I may demand that it be removed from the site.

I had to bring up the individual listing and at the top there is a review it button (big red) and next to it in small blue type it says...i own this business and under it says "report listing" both are links to a form to update info...

I bet you're looking at a business where the owner has already claimed it.  If the owner of the business claims the business as their own, the "I own this business" or "report listing" will not show up.  When a business owner claims their account, they have complete access to modify the information themselves.

Nope, becuase I was looking at my own business, and the "I own this business" or report listing" were not there.  I need to find a way to get it moved to the proper classification.  Should it really be that difficult for a business owner?

Are you registered, logged in and have already claimed the business?  If so - then you can edit the category on your own, and you would not see the "i own this business or report listing" links.

We've been getting really good responses from business owners.  This is going to be a great way to advertise local business.   We've tested this on various browsers and the links show up, however, as mentioned above it's programmed so they won't show up if the business is already claimed.  If you or someone in your business has already claimed it, they definitely won't show up.  I can check on it for you though, in fact, I sent a PM earlier today.   I'm not saying it's not a bug, because lord knows Mtalks still has it's quirks!   Drop me a note and we'll get this taken care of for you.   Thanks for your interest.

Wow!  Must be a conspiracy towards me.  When I tried to register, I filled in all the blanks.  When I clicked the submit button, I was informed my user name must be at least 4 characters.  There is no mention of a maximum.  My user name was my business name - 17 characters.  Seems last time I counted, 17 was more than 4.  What am I missing here?  If there is a max, it should be noted.  So, I think I will just give up on trying to work with this web site.  Is it just me, or haveothers had any problems?

I had no troubles. I claimed my business, but haven't gotten a confirmation call at my shop (I'm pretty sure that's how they said they verify). You should give it another shot, try a shorter user name and make sure someone else hasn't tried to claim it as thier own.

It will be a GREAT site, you just have to give them time. Everything starts out rough, but this is something that will really benefit Monroe's small and big businesses alike! If you find your business is already claimed, contact them by email and report it so they can look into it for you.

A suggestion for the site.
Add hours of operation for the businesses.

I have on too many occasions go to a business and expecting to find them open but closed.
Or, not even open yet.
Like some places downtown. You go there at 9 AM and find out [they] don't open until 10 AM.
