Where to get some home grown Zuchinnis
« on: August 29, 2009, 04:50:25 PM »

Anyone know where to get any home grown zuchinnis?  I saw a few stands in the country but only had squash. I dont want to drive all over waisting gas so If anyone knows a neighbor or a stand that sells zuchinnis  perferably near  Kmart or in Frenchtown please let me know. Have an inkling to make Zuchinni Bread real bad.  :)lol Thanks a bunch.  ;D

Try the Monroe Farmer's Market.  Open Saturdays and Tuesdays from 6 a.m. till noon (I think).  Located around the corner from Monroe St. Big Boy.

I have personally always gone to Charter Farm located on Ida-center rd, its about a mile past Lewis Ave. I know its not in the area you preferred but it is always wonderful produce, and my favorite part is that they choose to use no pesticides.Oh and also if you have to work late they put a little can outside with the produce and go on the honesty system. ps i was just out there about a week ago and they had lots of big and little zuchinnis. I purchased one of the larger ones to fry up and it was delicious

Superspice, if you had asked a week ago about zucchini, I would have told you I'd give you some.  Unfortunately, now ours have slowed down to a drizzle.  We've given it to our friends so much, they won't visit until they're sure the crop is done  :-\

I have made 28 loaves of bread, frozen enough shredded zucchini for 20 more loaves, made zucchini casseroles, zucchini omelets, stir fried zucchini, rolled in egg and corn meal and fried zucchini, zucchini fritters, zucchini pancakes and eaten raw zucchini.

Unless you have a favorite of all bread recipes, check online for some different recipes.  I've added blueberries to some loaves, carrots to some, dried cherries to some.  But our favorite is the crushed pineapple added.

You would be surprised how many zucchini come off a half dozen plants.  Good luck in your zucchini hunt.

Wow sounds like u hit the zuchinni jackpot. Everything sounded so good. I found one little stand on Nedeau that had a few small ones and sold them one the honor system ( a tin can u drop your money in) which was so cool. Ill have to keep checking back but would still be interested in knowing where some more places are.

PS theyre tomatoes and peppers looked really good too just incase any one is interested. Thanks all.

My grandpa does, they are nice ones too!
but I think it'll start to die down here shortly.
We use them up alot too. Never ever do they go to waste, or have no where to go!
