Monroe Running
« on: February 04, 2009, 09:33:44 PM »

Just wondering If there is anyone that runs through Monroe? I know it is winter, but die hard is die hard  ;D
I am kinda getting sick of running Custer Rd. so maybe someone else has some good ideas ?

Is that you out there on Custer ? ? ? ?  I drive it every day and I swear, I can't believe my eyes when I see you (all) running in winter.  You're not the one in shorts, are you?  You (all) DO put the crazy in term "die hard runner".   ha.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not bashing you at all.  I'm truly in awe.  I can't run anymore no matter what the temperature (wish I could) but this winter stuff is amazing!

I can't imagine as long as the roads are as bad as they are (thank you Road Commission) that a route other than the main roads would be virtually non-existent.

Good luck on finding a change of scenery to run.

I like the 3 mile loop at the State Park.  It is very pleasant, winds through the woods, crosses a couple of bridges and it is marked every two or three tenths of a mile so it is easy to pace yourself.  There are also no cars to contend with and it is paved, similar in width to the North Custer path.  They also have a couple of other paths including a loop that goes by the beach.

I've been staying inside on the treadmill since the last big snow, but I'll go back out there on Saturday when it warms up a little.

Been the treadmill for me too, but this weekend is going to be awesome. I might even pull out the running shorts.
I stick to neighborhoods.  I have a GPS running watch (garmin) that tracks my every move, so I can pretty much run in circles and it'll keep track of how far I go.   That device completely changed running all together for me, I no longer have to stick to pre-mapped-out courses.

I'm gearing up for the Cork Town race on March 15th.

I hear there's beer at the finish line.   woohoo!

Anyone know if Monroe has a 5k?  I was thinking about doing the Dexter/Ann Arbor run but I don't know if I'll be ready by then.

I think there is still the Herb's Run and if I remember right it was in April. If they have it you can find the sign up sheets on the bike path. DTE puts on one in the summer out at MCCC.

When I ran (I hurt my Achilles but I am working on a comeback) I would take the back route out to Sterling State Park and run the loop. The route is located off of East Elm before the I75 off ramp.

Monroe has some great pathes to run on. You can run from Sterling State Park to the dirt pathes in the back of Munson Park and only cross around 6 roads.

There's actually one (a 5K) on Feb. 14 --- the Muskrat Run at Sterling State Park. But if you don't think you'll be ready for Dexter-Ann Arbor, then this one is way too soon. I'll be out there slogging my way through at the park.

Thanks for the info.  I'll keep that in mind next year.
