That's probably a rumor...I can't see a place staying in business of grooming without a investigation if they broke 2 dogs backs...unless those dogs turned vicious or something and it was a fight or flight... now with that said...yes I have had a horrible groomer experience where I had my Bouvier groomed and my dog came home with bloody nipples and cuts.
Now for the positive... Annie over at Play and stay is the best groomer in town. She will talk to you, work with you on obediance if you have questions, concerns, etc. I have seen her take flea ridden kittens and pick out each damn flea in an area without any other animals and then clean the place beyond belief so she makes sure not one flea will survive and then taught the new owner how to further help the kitties...I have seen her work with a couple who just purchased a pit bull on how to train them so the dog doesn't lead and become a dog who is misjudged... I stood there as she shaved a herding dog who was so matted and filled with sores with tears in her eyes and telling this old old dog "I'm sorry baby, we are going to help you okay?" She cares, she grooms my dogs even though I have been neglectful and had them turn into matted messes (they have that cotton fur...and oh my word it's hard) and she's not only nice, cares, but, she's straight to the point and doesn't beat around...tells it like it is.
Yeah so, I take all my pets to her. I have watched her try her butt off to save animals. Now that's a groomer...oh and she used to be a vet tech, animal control officer where she went and fought in court after dealing with an owner who took a pair of scissors to it's dogs ears thinking it was *cropping* them... seen her jump fences to help deer...etc. Yeah, I'm biast...she's one of my lifelong friends...oh and she was there when I had to put that same bouvier to sleep...she administered the injection and held me and my dog while I cried. That dog meant the world to me... my mom died of cancer and it was her dog and I was trusted to care for her. Sooo...when I was told her hips were so bad and she was in so much pain that the vet said I needed to put her to sleep...I took the dog to Annie and she helped me through it all. So, yeah... you want a vet...and can stand someone who is straight up.. .because she cares... and she will love your dog to bits...and if they are good they get a bow lol then go over to play and stay...before she was a groomer ... I did have bad experiences. Now, I am thankful.
that's all... try out play and stay and if you are near Gibralter Veternarian there was one lady over there who was wonderful too. Her name escapes me... it's been years... she is where the bouvier went AFTER my awful experience with her poor shaved nipples and sores. That was also where back in 90 Annie trained as a vet tech when we were straight out of high school. Back then it was a wee little office..then it became huge and redone... I loved them but the higher prices made me have to go elsewhere. There was a vet named Dr Love that was fabulous.
