Neil Young teams with Elton
9 March 2010, 8:09 pm

Strange news indeed. According to longtime Elton John lyricist, Bernie Taupin’s website states that Neil Young will appear on the Rocket Man’s latest recording. Southern Man meets Benny & the Jets?

Other classic musical guests include Leon Russell and Booker T. Jones.

Lower prices for music CDs (finally?)
18 March 2010, 11:27 pm

In light of falling music sales, one music publisher is taling about ratcheting down the prices for it’s CDs to $10. About freaking time! Didn’t they tell us 20 years ago that CDs were going to cost less to produce and eventually would drop in price. Too bad they had to wait until downloading all but killed the industry to make this change.

Read about it here.

Waters brings “The Wall” to Detroit
13 April 2010, 7:27 pm

Former Pink Floyd songwriter/bassist/visionary Roger Waters will be bringing an updated version of “The Wall” to the Palace (of Auburn Hills) on Oct. 24. It’s been 30 years (30 years!) since Floyd’s sprawling epic of despair made it’s debut on AOR radio. Floyd never made it to Detroit on that tour, but now Mr. Waters [...]

Today is “Record Store Day!”
17 April 2010, 12:26 pm

Today, April 17 is Record Store Day, so you need to tear yourself away from your computer, leave the comfort of your home and get in the vehicle of choice and head over to the nearest record store (while there still is one left in existence) with your radio blaring loudly as you use your [...]

Online Blues History show still available
8 August 2010, 5:29 pm

While scouring the web for music news, I stumbled across this great series put out by Public Radio International back in 2003 about the history of blues music. Fortunately its still available online if you didn’t catch it the first time around. It’s hosted by Keb Mo and features tons of music by blues masters [...]

50 Great Voices in music on NPR
8 August 2010, 5:42 pm

Okay, it’s my day to plug public radio, but here’s another interesting segment from NPR Music featuring a potpourri of notable vocal artists (Joplin, Orbison, Bjork, Caruso, Nat King Cole, etc.). I would specifically direct you to the segment on the late, great Sandy Denny (most notably as the voice of the British folk group, [...]
