Monroe Co. fire probed as arson
BLADE STAFF

ERIE — A garage at 8397 South Telegraph Rd. was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, sparking an investigation by the Monroe County Fire Investigation Team, troopers at the Monroe post of the Michigan State Police said.

The Erie Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze. A home on the property was unoccupied because it is being renovated, troopers said.

A blaze Monday at a former gas station at 7428 South Telegraph Rd. in Bedford Township is being investigated as an arson.

Troopers Saturday night asked anyone with information about either fire to call police. A reward of up to $5,000 is available for those providing information that leads to the arrest or conviction of an arsonist, troopers said. Tips may be e-mailed to reward@miarsonprevention.org or phoned in, 1-800-44-ARSON.

Here's the link to the MEN article about the latest fire...   maybe a fire bug on the loose???  We saw all the cars and trucks at the Erie fire station when we went to Toledo but didn't notice the fire on Telegraph when we came home...  it was almost dark though...

Police in Monroe said an arsonist could be targeting the area.

Police said two recent fires are being investigated as arson, and are believed to be related.

I'm not condoning arson, if that is indeed what is taking place, but it's about time somebody did SOMETHING about the numerous blighted, derelict structures in Erie and Lasalle Twps.

The money being spent on investigating the fires and trying to find a culprit would have been better spent on knocking the damn things down in the first place.

it sounded like Erie Twp. did a great job on the second fire.  called for the garage, got informed that the house was igniting as well.  got both fires knocked down before even needing mutual aide.

great work Sta. 27.  I hope someone catches this arsonist before someone gets injured either in the fire or fighting the fires.

I remember about 27 yrs ago when my youngest was newborn.  My car had a flat and I had 3 kids with me.  The gentleman there was very nice...let me use his car to go buy another tire.  But I seem to remember he had some kind of trucking business in there...it was run down way back then, lots of semi trailers etc sitting around.  Buy what a nice guy to let me use his car (a total stranger with 3 small children)  I have never forgotten that or him.I'm glad Erie did a fine job putting the fire out!
