I wouldn't relegate Burleson to a support role.   He's a heck of a good WR, and was a mainstay of the Seahawks for quite a few years...including both a receiver and kick returner.   Course, the Seahawks weren't much better than the Lions.

Didn't the Seahawks go to the Superbowl while he was with them? I'd say that was much better than what the Lions have done lately.

My biggest issue with Burelson is that he is injured a lot.  In seven seasons he has missed 23 games, including 18 over the last 2 years.

With the signing of Van Den Bosch and the Williams pickup, I see them possibly trading down a few picks and possibly taking an OT (Okung) with the first pick. Being a draft with deep talent on the defensive side of the ball, they would still be able to get quality at the beginning of round 2. JMO

That's true and from what I've heard the Lions are shopping the pick.  The only problem is that Suh is a once in a generation DT.  It's hard to pass up on someone that will anchor your D line for the next 8 years.

No.  Burleson joined the Seahawks after their run to the SuperBowl...the feeling was that he joined the Seahawks, thinking they had a good chance to return to the Superbowl.  But sorta the same as the Lions, the Seahawks can find dozens of ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory :)  Acquired in 2006 as a restricted free agent was mostly a disappointment.  He missed nearly all of 2008 with a torn ACL and combined for only 886 receiving yards in 2006-2007.  But when he played, and was healthy, he was a solid receiver.

Sorry guys Burelson isn't much better than Northcutt or Bryant Johnson just another one off of the scrap heap.

If he remains injury free he's a great #2 receiver.

I'm not sure if I like the Lions trading draft picks for defensive backs I've never heard of

I thought they were like 6 or 7 round picks, Niles.  How often do those work out for the Lions?  :)

Maybe these are a little more experienced than late round picks.  Not sure.

Lions fans have grown to expect the worse outcomes for so long now that I don't know it's possible to get out of the mind set.

It was a sixth-round pick and a swap of fifth rounders (the Lions moved down about 15 spots in the fifth round).
That is not a huge price to pay, but in a deep draft it might be better to take a chance on the draft pick rather than a player who did not pan out somewhere else.

Houston cost them a 2010 6th rd and a "conditional 7th rd in the 2011 draft. The Lions haven't had much luck with 1st rd pics so to get an experienced CB with some upside and no injury history would seem like a no brainer.Vanden Busch still has some gas left in the tank. Burelson will go the way of the prior #2 guys.not good.

I think the Lions may be on the right track as long as they don't blow the draft(their track record speaks for itself). I just hope they concentrate on defence.
