What is a moderation queue?
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:35:42 AM »

What is a moderation queue?

I'm told that after "so many warnings" users are put into a moderation queue.

The reply link doesn't work when the warning comes from "MonroeTalks.com" so I had to create this thread.....what is a moderation queue and how many warnings are required to be put there?

I personally think it's unfair since my posts were responses and my connect-the-dot post didn't include any personal information that wasn't previously disclosed by the suspect himself.

Of course you'll receive complaints on me....I have lots of haters of there....you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

It would behoove The Monroe Evening News to reign in the poor judgment of the Moderator on duty for the recent episodes I've just mentioned.

I suspect that mod didn't even read the progression of events before arbitrarily censoring the posts and issuing the warning(s)

There should be some allowance, taking into consideration who actually initiated the TOS violation.

The way it is now, both parties are being punished.....not a fair way to ensure justice is being served.

Your warnings have the effect of handcuffing me while punches are still being thrown....I can only bob and weave for so long.

I think the writing is on the wall....the opposition is winning and the MT censorship team is complicit.

I'm guessing someone took a cue from Dicktater Soos at the other site and implemented a "Cornfield" here.

I believe I've explained as much as I could without violating the TOS (again)

I'm walking on eggshells here

Is there something specific I can help you with?

FF.  Some time ago they instituted a new way of moderating.  I think it was around the last big upragde.
Something about a warning gets posts watched for a certain time, a second is an automatic short ban.  A new one while on probabtion gets a longer ban.  Something like that.  There should be a topic on it somewhere here.

The designated user is directed to a different page from the main page which you see here.  They are not able to navigate away from that page to participate in normal day to day activities or to even observe what everyone else is doing...  There is probably some kind of a timeframe that they must remain in this queue...

And as far as not being the first one to break the TOS, two wrongs do not make a right. Just because someone else breaks the rules, does not give another the right to also do so FF.

I kind of think in terms of hockey on this.  It is usually the one retaliating that gets the penalty.  Not right, but common.

THere are at least a few here that goad people until they lose it and then act all innocent when the responder goes off.  I think they should suffer a penalty too, but apparently do not.  FF, even though you are usually a retaliator, you start some too.  I have seen topics going along sort of okay, and you make a "stupid Repuke" or similar and get the other side going.  But, I will agree that they do go after you awfully hard and you usually retaliate.  It seems unfair that one can't "get even" but that is MT's rule.

Personally, I wish they would crack down on doing copy pastes without credit or links as their own.  And another biggie is false information.  I know it is difficult to say that this is all true or not, but here seems to be a great deal of mostly very false crap tossed in with some fact lately.  Usually a supposed repost of an email.  Like that is supposed to be a good source.

In an effort to keep moderation consistent on Monroe Talks, we will begin using Simple Machine Forums moderation tools.   Here's how they work:

If a user breaks the rules of the site, we will issue them a warning and adjust the warning level.   The percentage levels are upped in 5% increments, but can be adjusted accordingly depending on the severity of the disruption.

0-30%: Adds the user to a moderator watch list.

35-60%:  All users posts will be moderated.

65-100%:  User will not be able to post.

When issuing a warning, the user will be notified and the citation logged in our system under the users profile.    This will keep records of everything, and be accessible to the moderation team, so everyone is aware of users activities.

The system is also set up to drop in 5% increments every 24 hours if a user isn't issued any warnings within that time.

Again, I hope we don't even have to use this system.  It comes packaged with the software, and up until recently did we even realize it existed.   This will take a lot of the guess work out of moderating, especially when multiple moderators are watching the site.  During the flood of traffic we had a few weeks ago, we really had a tough time consistently moderating the site.   Things have settled down, but we're working to prepare for the future, in hopes all users can have a better experience using the site.

Questions, comments, suggestions?

I still don't know how long it lasts but if I'm reading it right...it looks like I'm on the watch list since each warning is valued at 5%

Looks like a fair system but I'm still concerned because I'm the nail that sticks out and nothing would please the right more than hammering on me.

I bet I've even been the topic of discussion at their meetings....plus as everyone knows, I've crossed swords with LE and on occasion the Bible huggers as well....lots of people would love to silence the opposition....ME!

Now one warning came from a reply to someone that wanted to discuss something in a fish topic....it did venture off topic but the treatment of fish was at the heart of the discussion.
The lady that reported it had nothing to do with the conversation and the person that initiated it said he was fine with it...the mod should not have deleted anything there and should not have issued me a warning.
It's that mod that used poor judgment and could use remedial instruction.
