LOL - if that is true I am glad Michigan is playing in Dallas next Saturday!

 ;D

As of 7 am this morning Dallas was right at the very NW edge of the storm.

Map is from the National Weather Service's twitter feed for that area:

Just now a little rain but clearing up here at the border.

Word of the week is GAS!!!!  Keep tanks full when price is still low.

Just filled up at a Speedway on Alexis/Douglas $2.09
But im guessing before the week is out it goes over $3..

We saw some stations in Monroe at $2.499 on Friday night already...   then when we got to Kroger on Saturday they were still at $2.249 so we filled up there.

On our trip we saw prices from $2.069 (we had filled up an hour earlier :( :( :( ) to $2.399...   we actually bought $20 worth of that as we were out in the middle of nowhere and getting low.  I did have 3-4 gallons in the can for the generator so I probably would have been OK but didn't need the hassle along the interstate.

I put in the $20 worth and the machine didn't give me a receipt so my wife went inside to get the receipt.  The guy on the service desk (I'm guessing he was the owner) actually commented that he 'knew' a truck like 'that' could hold more than $20...   what he didn't 'know' was that it was about 11am and there were stations ahead with lower prices and places to eat lunch ;) ;) ;)

Prices are already jumping in south Florida.  I texted our youngest to go buy as much gas as she could!

I did see that there were 10 refineries they shut down along the gulf before the storm hit.

It is what it is.  Why get excited.  You buy it, you consume it and buy some more.  I'd just as soon see 4 bucks a gallon for regular unleaded.  Maybe people would start driving more responsibly if the cost of driving was high.  Even 5 bucks a gallon would work, work to slow people down some...  a good thing in my opinion.

Diesel was at $2.70 on Sunday when I fueled in Ionia.

Just saw on the news that the storm area could still get another 1-2 feet of rain.  Now they're in the process of opening the flood gates of a couple of reservoirs so they can release the overflow 'slowly' before the dams break and cause even more damage.

I never have had much desire to travel to Texas.  My Dad was stationed for a short time at Fort Sam Houston (San Antonio) and he said it was the most uninteresting place he was stationed.

I've been there many, many times in the past.  Not lately.  All I remember about Texas was the bridges over the dry washes that turned into raging rivers when it rained, the fire ants and all the Mexicans.

Lack of color in my tree's yet the leaves are falling...

Lots of Walnuts this year too!   after last years almost none.   I'll be raking em if anyone likes walnuts I can save you some.

This year we're seeing more Black Walnuts and Hickory nuts both.

Our son just bought a lawn vacuum and I'm curious if the large nuts are going to 'sweep' up and not jam the vacuum.  Anyone have any experience using a vacuum on either?

Never had luck with a walk behind sized vacuum...    I rake the majority and the mower gets those I miss...  then it's time to put on new blades  :)

This is a bigger one...  it hooks behind his Cub Cadet (he's got the CC fever too) and a big vacuum tube hooks to his mower deck.  I have exactly the same mower deck so we'll just fab up a bracket for mine and then I can use his vac while he's at work.  He did reach inside and found that the impeller has blades that swing kind of like a brush hog so thinking those may swing away if the nuts do make it up the tube and into vacuum.  It has a 5 hp Briggs engine.  He found it used down in Point Place and we tried it out last night.  Sure does pick up the grass clippings and the pine needles.  Next week I'll try it on the Hickory nuts!!!

Looks similar to this:

A nice crisp and clear fall morning.

I thought I heard a forecast that said it would warm up again later in the week and maybe more rain!!!

Looks like most of the beans have been harvested although the field across from us is still standing.  I've even seen a few fields of corn that have been combined although I've also seen some fields that still have a lot of green in them too.

And yet another clear crisp morning...

a few more clouds in the sky this morning than there has been.  I imagine this 'streak' has to end at some point though.

The farmer finally harvested the beans in the field across the road.  Thought maybe I'd see a deer in the field this morning but nothing yet.  Been seeing several deer on our own property both in person and on the trail camera.  I've had pictures of at least one 6 point (somehow they just don't look like the same critter) and one picture of an 8 pointer.  The bow hunters are out so my deer count is 'subject to change' I guess.

I also see multiple jet contrails that appear to be out over Lake Erie.  One is very 'fresh' looking and the others vary from wider to almost ready to disappear.  Our Defen$e dollars at work ;D ;D ;D
