Out the car window this morning in Toledo I saw more than one gas station with regular at $3.119...

On the way home I saw lots of corn that is chest high...

and a few fields that it looked close to over my head already...

we always figured we'd have a good corn crop if it was "knee high" by the 4th of July ;) ;) ;)

I'm trying to decide if I see a big pocketed birds nest or the start of a bee hive ??  I'll be watching that spot for a while.

Yep I can see less and less now my corn privacy fence has reached 5-6 feet already...  Used to really enjoy it more when we were younger and had a pool  ;)

It's amazing what hybrids and engineering have done to corn and other crops.

I remember combining wheat in August...  not June...

we saw corn with tassels popping out the top all around Ida last night...

after we stopped to look at the tree limb that fell on the little Methodist Church (the one with the shed that has the steeple on it) near Ida East and Lewis.

We looked at one field where they were combining the wheat and going right behind the combine with a grain drill planting something...   anybody have any idea what?

They're second cropping Soybeans. This will be an ideal year for it if we get some rain to germinate the seeds.

Agreed - its a sometimes used "extra" cash flow trick for farmers - not a good thing to do very often, but every now and then the soil and risks of weather make it worth while.

My days on the farm were up in Midland county...   most of the beans up there were Navy beans back then...  Maybe it was just far enough more north that we didn't see it up there...

 I don't remember seeing this happen even around here but maybe just something I never paid any attention to...

The red wheat headed out nicely the white, not so good.  Moisture is critical right now for field corn and to germinate the drilled behind the wheat, beans.

Not seeing much moisture this year, in fact we are about 3" shy of average rainfall.  No tain, no germination.  No rain, no filled out ears.  No rain, no hay.

Time for some rain.....

The moon looks great! It's low, full, with broken clouds framing it and seems to be just rising above Lake Erie.

Actually a really nice night...especially for fireworks. It's cool, the full moon is bright...the earlier rain dampened the ground a bit.

We could see the fireworks display at Sterling from here.

The finale reminded me of an old war movie....lots of ferocious booms.

The very end seemed a bit odd though....a bunch of booms yet no visible display. Made me wonder if something went awry.

Seems like just about every neighbor around us bought lots of fireworks...they're still going at it.

Someone placed some sort of tube in the park that shot off multiple aerial displays but after a few shots, it must've fell over because it started firing in all directions sideways and the crowd scattered with panic.

I could do without the fishflies though.

Saw what looked like a candle floating under a bag...it was pretty high in the sky though so I'm not exactly positive.

They're called "Chinese Sky Lanterns"...

We actually had a thread about these 4 years ago :) :) :) 

In some places they have festivals where they send thousands of them into the sky...
