I hate to hear of coffee houses closing.  Pretty soon all there will be is Panera and Tim Hortons for a "Specialty" coffee.  yuk.

I think it's a conspiracy to force me to lose a few pounds

Coffee Beanery isn't any better than Tim Hortons.  With any luck, someone will take over the building.  With decent signage so you could actually see it coming out of Cabelas something should do well there.

I liked it because it was close to home.   I agree that we need better signs for all the businesses here.   Someone not familiar isn't easily able to patronize what they don't know is available.

Even though I don't go often, I found the pie shop (right behind Arby's) to be very good.

I enjoy Coffee Beanery's coffee, and I like Tim Horton's ok, too. I might give a slight edge to CB's coffee just because that's their main focus, and each time I've had it it's been nice and fresh and rich tasting. Haven't been to the one in Dundee, just making a general comment about the chain.

Seems like the location in Dundee would've been ideal for such a place. Wonder what did them in?

The Hallmark store on Telegraph closed earlier this month.  Fashion Bug in the same complex will be closing (date unknown).

Makes me sad to see two more places go, but there are so many businesses out there to pick from, and the more I think about things the less stuff I want to buy.  :(

It bothers me to see so many empty businesses wherever we go.

Seems I do most of my "shopping" at flea markets and yard sales now.   Finding a "like new" item for $1 can be a thrill if it is useful.  One year I outfitted a entire apartment for a relative that way and the most I paid for an item was $10.

I think Kohls & TG Maxx gave Fashion Bug a run for the money, and they won.

I agree there are way too many empty storefronts in Monroe. (Outlet comes to mind among many others)

Oh well.

That's the best way to do things, then if something fantastic at a bargain comes along you have the money to get it and enjoy yourself!!

I'm actually surprised a few "Mall" stores haven't looked at this area - Telegraph/Front...   Strip Mall rent vs Mall rent should be more economical - and you can actually drive through the area without traffic jams.   I detest driving N. Telegraph past Meirers with the one lane traffic.

Hopefully the economy improvements we hear about will start to happen around here soon.

I know of an organization that was interested in acquiring the old Farmer Jacks bldg, but the  overwhelming legal red-tape involved (because of issues with the prior buidling owners) caused interest to ultimately fade.

It's such a nice shopping area on that corner of Front/Telegraph that I can't understand why someone can't make it work.

But, then again . . . . The Outlet sits empty and literally disintegrates more and more with every month.

Such a waste.  :-\

Curious if Farmer Jack or their holding company still owns all the property?

From my understanding, the entire complex was recently purchased in a foreclosure/reorganization from an investor out of Toledo.

When we first moved here someone pointed out to me that at one point that had been the site of the local dump 8* 8* 8*

Maybe too many of the locals still remember that :) :) :)

Not sure what you mean by "the Outlet"...

If you're talking the complexes out on Laplaisance road, they are far from "empty"...

certainly below capacity but not empty....

The Harwood family has purchased the two northern "complexes" and is slowly revitalizing them.

I was out there this week and Joe Bryant was working in the parking lot, filling potholes it looked like.

From what I can see the original "outlet mall" is overloaded...

with fireworks stores...   plus there are a couple of "tent" outlets for fireworks at the same intersection!!!

On one of your frequent trips to Catawba maybe you should get off the freeway and actually drive through the parking lots and past the storefronts...

Apparently it's hard to see what's actually happening when you're just zooming by 8* 8* 8*
