With different owners?  Maybe they would have made it in a different time and a different place? :)

Shirley's is closing but reopening in a different location under a different name and carrying more products. I can't think of the name, but I have it in the store and will post when I get a chance.

If I remember correctly from when I first looked Shirley's up there were a few other locations...   seems like down in Ohio probably.  Maybe this one was a "franchised" outlet and the owner here is now dropping the franchise.  They would certainly have to change the name at the very minimum.  I don't know this as fact and it is merely speculation on my part 8* 8* 8*

Didn't even know where they were. (Where were they?)

It's too bad little shops can't make it here. I think of the old Emporium and wonder if someone opened a larger space like that and sublet booths if small places like a popcorn shop or a Michigan goods or a used book store could survive.

The first block of S. Monroe st...   near the cigar shop ;) ;) ;)

Actually, Shirleys is simply changing their name, expanding to carry new products (Premium Popcorn, Retro Pop, Retro Candies, Gourmet Amish Foods, and Gift Baskets) and relocating to 21 W. First Street, which is directly across the street from the Monroe Evening News' First Street entrance.
They are opening under the name "Susie's Sweets & Eats" in November, but will remain open at Shirley's current location until then.

I went to O'Reilly's and noticed that Sharky's looked like it was closed up for good.

Found out today that our Monroe Sears starts their liquidation sale February 10. If you have any returns, they have to be back before then.

I wonder what kind of specials Sears will have on their tools?

Or will they just remove the high dollar tools to another location?

Hmmmmm.....

I believe it is common practice for retailers to sell the store stock to a company that specializes in store liquidation instead of attempting to run a store closure sale themselves.   All sales are final signs are usually a good indication that a solvent retailer like Sears is not running the operation.

When I was there a few days ago, they already have lots of stuff on clearance. It's worth taking a look and asking. I'm going back to stock up on pillows and pick up a few kitchen items. I'll miss Sears. They had a great photography studio; the folks there really knew how to work with little kids.

The one at K-marts was pretty good with our grandchildren.  Olan Mills I believe.

Nico's Pizza has closed. I had a slice once and it was very good. I know some relatives who are really bummed that their favorite pizza place has closed. Always sad to see an independent go under.

That just leaves 254 other pizza places in Monroe.  ;)

Nico's was very good pizza. So sad to see them go. They were so much better than Mary Sicco's and Daffy Tiff'"s. The owners at Nico's were awesome...can't say that about the latter two... Horrible .
