I'd venture a guess that if it had been your name that had been posted for everyone to see and then left for 5 hours you wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss this ;) ;) ;)

I'm not dismissing crap!

It happened.

It was WRONG.  I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AGREE.

Just like I think anyone THREATENING to divulge personal information here in the forum is a CLEAR AND DEFINITE break of the TOS.   I wonder how the Admins would react to that breach of the rules.

People's memories seem to be a bit convenient here.   ;)

I agree. It should be a lifetime ban.

Memory is very clear...   I've read the TOS and they're mum on threatening...  if they change the rules then they become "the rules"...

I'm getting mixed signals from your last two posts...

just which stance are you taking...

it's either WRONG or IT HAPPENED BUT LETS JUST FORGET IT HAPPENED BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY FF IT HAPPENED TO AND NOT ME 8* 8* 8*

Double standards perhaps ??? ??? ???

So, let me understand...

Yes, it should. But it is quite clear that people can post personal information and still be here and also RETURN here after a while.

I say..... "what's good for the goose is good for the gander."   ;)

and that goes for saying someone's personal information outright, linking to someone's personal information (names or photos), and threatening to reveal someone's personal information.

Mandatory minimum should be six months off. JMHO. But yeah, some people reveal personal information and never get even minimal punishment.

Putting families in danger of creepy people violating their privacy is NOT cool. And those that think it's no big deal, then go ahead and post your real name, address, and photograph, then see how it feels. Until then, you should probably just shut your mouths.

I would agree that this is some major BS. People have a right to their privacy. Also on a side note i think i might know who this David Fox person is but of course I can't reveal any personal information about a MEN user.

One word: Facebook.

How many of us have publicly searchable profiles on Facebook? Did you know Farmville's creators (Zynga, Inc) has access to all of the information you've ever input into Facebook's profiles, even after you delete it? Did you know Facebook claims copyright on the photos you upload to their website?

Yeah, it sucks that people post personal information on this website, but we shouldn't be tsk-tsking it on this site while willfully ignoring the fact that we're barfing huge amounts of personal information to advertisers on another site.

So, let me understand...

If you're mixed up about my feelings on the subject, PLEASE let me help you.

Divulging personal information is ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT, CLEARLY, INDEFENSIBLY, INDISPUTABLY and UNETHICALLY WRONG PUNISHABLE BY THE TOS.

Clear?  WRONG!    Clear yet?  WRONG! ! !   Still mixed for you?  IT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG ! ! ! !

Should the person be banned?  YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.  You clear on that yet?  YES, BANNED.

For how long?  FOR GOOD.

But, we all know bans don't last forever, now do they?  Many should and this instance is one of them.

Now, your interpretation that I seem to feel it is OK because it happened to FF is yours to own, not mine.   You can use my suggestion that life goes on after something like this against me, but it's not the first time you'd be WRONG.

However, that said . . . . it IS done.

You tell me how to un-ring that bell sir and we'll all feel better.  So, since nobody can un-ring the bell, I suggest moving on.

OR we could drag the "I've been wronged again" thread out until we all puke.  (Gee, I wonder which will actually happen)  :D  :D  :D

As for the defense of "threatening to divulge personal information" as being no big deal, it is CLEARLY UNETHICAL and also indefensible.

Oh, I also forgot that those companies Facebook works with also has complete information on your friends' and their details, too. Just because you didn't authorize Zynga, Inc. to have your personal information doesn't mean they don't have it; I'm sure plenty of your friends play Farmville, and you're linked to their profile..

Did you voluntarily give your favorite book information to Zynga, Inc. or Microsoft or any other Facebook partners? How about your photos? Your friends? Who your husband is?

Also also: By publicly drawing attention to the incident by starting a whole new thread on it, FF has amplified the information's dissemination. I had no idea this thing happened until he posted about it. Were someone unscrupulous, one of the many hundreds of people who use this site (and have read this thread) now know that FF's name was posted between 4am and 9am. A few PMs or an email to some friends and I'm sure you'd find out all the skeevy details.

But I knew all that when I signed up for Facebook. The comparison isn't a valid one, IMO. I don't care about advertisers from fb knowing what my favorite books are. They are anonymous and remote. But to have crazy stalkers driving by one's house is a whole 'nother story.

Ok, here's a better example:

You go through a lot of trouble to safeguard your privacy, to the point of locking down your Facebook to only be visible by friends, with no pictures or personally identifiable information. One night you go out with some friends to McGeady's. People being people, the next day they post all the pictures from their phones and tag their friends. Now, your friends aren't as privately scrupulous as you are; they don't give one whit who knows what about them. They tag you, holding a beer, wearing a lampshade on your head and dancing on the pool table.

Technology being what it is, within an hour or two that picture with your name on it is cached on, at the very least, Google. Even if you untagged yourself, the cache is still there. And advertisers know that you are now good friends with the 8 other people posted in the photo, and that your favorite beer is Killian's.

To use your stalking analogy: Almost everyone on Facebook has their friends list publicly available: Any dedicated stalker could go through one of the dozens of friends you have and find your picture; and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I'm just saying; Monroetalks is extremely small potatoes compared to the information glut we're giving the world on other websites.

so why have a TOS at all?  Why have rules?  I can't swear on this site but I can on Face Book.  Big woop.  The bottom line is the TOS on MT was violated....end of story.
