Does anyone watch the Macy's one? I am going to this year. Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray is going to be performing. That's exciting to me!! lol.

Edited to add: Hairspray comes out in 6 days. I'm geeked!

When I was younger we all sat around the television and watched it.  Now I can't get anyone interested in watching anything but sports  :-[    Maybe it is because of the  veggie platter and chips and dip.  :P

When I was a kid, watching all the parades on TV was THE thing to do on T'day morning. Seems like there were three major ones (two from NY and one from Detroit), then later in the day, we'd watch one from Hawaii that usually had Charo doing her 'cootchie cootchie' schtick. I didn't like that one as much as the ones with the giant balloons, but the flowers were pretty.

I've tried to get into watching the parades as an adult, but they're kinda dull. The performers lip synch (sorry, Bethany), there are too many commercials, and the hosts are so maudlin it's almost embarassing to witness!  :P

But, still, it's tradition, and this year I'll try and get my girls interested in the balloons and floats. It was magical to me as a kid, and I hope they get the same thrill, at least for a little while.

MM - you're making me work here.  I had to get the dictionary out to find out what maudlin means (overly sentimental) in case anybody else is wondering.

I suppose I should have just googled it huh?  Anyway, it brought back a good memory.  I got this dictionary (engraved with my name and everything) for winning the school spelling bee in 6th grade.  I didn't fair so well in the Monroe County competition tho :( >:(.  I wonder if they still do those things - my kids never talk about them.  Maybe they just can't spell very well? lol.

Probably a lot of new words that aren't in that dictionary DundeeDad!  Did you get the trophy too or just the dictionary?

Using google, to see a definition for a word or phrase, simply type the word "define," then a space, and then the word(s) you want defined. If Google has seen a definition for the word or phrase on the Web, it will retrieve that information and display it at the top of your search results.

Thanks for the advice on google MomEm.  I had just been just typing a word followed by "definition" into Yahoo, which made me search further to find the definition sometimes.  I'll try google next time.

Yes, I got these little plastic trophies in 5th and 6th grade for winning the spelling bee  :o.  I think my spelling ability has gone down hill every year since then tho. :( >:(

I had a feeling you won one too when you asked that question! lol.  Yeah, they look like a little minature version of the Winston Cup trophy.  But unless yours is quite a bit heavier than mine, then I'm thinking not real gold! lol.

Actually mine are serving a purpose.  My son had a hole in-one in our backyard when he was 3.  (we have a golf hole in our back yard).  He also made his first birdie on a real golf course when he was 8.  So those 2 golf balls are in those spelling bee trophies in his trophy case. (they are perfect size for that). ;)

Did you get the dictionary too?
