Trespassing at quarry investigated after complaints
18 August 2010, 12:33 pm

Sheriff's deputies on Monday recorded the identities of up to 17 people who were swimming at the old France Stone Quarry in Monroe Township where local residents have been complaining of trespassing.

I know some of the kids were from out of town, but I'm not surprised local kids are trying to find other options. No swimming pool= quarry. Damn shame Cantrick was filled and never used. Good to see the powers that be read this forum. As soon as it was mentioned on here that kids were scaling the fence for a swim "no trespassing or you will be prosecuted" signs appeared all over the fences. Hopefully we can get it together for next year.

The trespassing appears to have slowed some but it hasn't gone away completely.

We had been out to the state park Saturday and took Kentucky and Hull when we headed south.  That was the day Dixie was overwhelmed with vehicles going around the backups on 75.

We saw several large groups of people dressed in swim attire and carrying tubes and rafts.  Pretty obvious what they were doing.  A group of 4 appeared to be Dad, Mom and 2 kids maybe 8-10.  C'mon kids let us show you how to trespass!!!

Here are a couple of YouTubes from the MonroeNews they just posted on Twitter.

I really think 99% of the problem will be solved 'when' they open the bar/restaurant on the quarry.  It may have a name by now but I don't remember it off hand.  The main place the swimmers go is mostly out of view of the few homeowners but will be very much 'in view' of the bar.  Staff should have 'easy pickings' at that point.

Isn't a quarry what they call an attractive nuisance?

Of course people are going to swim in it....

Get used to it.

But if one swims in it and drowns there are lawyers that think the owner of the quarry is responsible.

Seems to me that Gross (owner) has always drug his feet concerning trespassing.  Not sure why.  It's all private property and as such, anyone swimming there is trespassing.  I know if I owned a house on the quarry, I'd sure as hell not want kids or adults using my property to access the quarry.

And they will lose if the owner can show that it was posted and reasonable steps were taken to prevent it.

This was the biggest non-news article the geniuses at this paper have come up with in a long time.

yes, I think you're right about the lawsuits.  You can't expect the owners to have to build a Trump type wall.

I don't know any of the players personally (other than Bill Gross professionally) but I would guess that the people who live in the homes on the quarry and even along Dunbar and Hull and Kentucky might disagree with you.

Lots of news article have to with the NIMBY theory...

if it's not happening in my back yard then it's just not newsworthy!!!

I know if I lived there and it was happening to me, I would not be happy about the trespassers.
