Article from Mlive yesterday:

also an interesting link from the article...    It asks if you want to share your location...   I allowed it to  and it immediately popped up a link to a local "alternative pain" center:

I suspect the author of the Mlive story has twisted up a few fatties over his lifetime.   ;D

Marijuana Good For You? JAMA Study on Pot
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association compared lung function of marijuana smokers, tobacco smokers and nonsmokers.

Article from the Midland paper discussing a recent survey of county residents...    interesting in that Midland is the home of Michigan's Attorney General Bill Schuette:

It should be legalized.

A few years back, a friends mom in her 80's had stomach and colon cancer. Weed was the only thing that seemed to help her settle her stomach and give her an appetite, so that she could eat a little and keep up her strength. She was against using it at first but her pain meds kept her so out of it that she would go days without eating. The weed helped her, as I am sure it helps others with chronic pain.

The study, led by Dr Ido Wolf, analysed the views of 263 people

More than two-thirds of cancer patients who were prescribed medical marijuana to combat pain are reportedly satisfied with the treatment, according to a comprehensive study conducted for the first time in Israel.

The study - conducted recently at Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, in conjunction with the Israel Cancer Association - involved 264 cancer patients who were treated with medical marijuana for a full year.

Some 61 percent of the respondents reported a significant improvement in their quality of life as a result of the medical marijuana, while 56 percent noted an improvement in their ability to manage pain. In general, 67 percent were in favor of the treatment, while 65 percent said they would recommend it to other patients.

The findings were presented earlier this month at an Israeli Oncologists Union conference in Eilat. The study was led by Dr. Ido Wolf, the director of oncology at the Sheba Cancer Center, with the assistance of researchers Yasmin Leshem, Damien Urbach, Adato Berliz, Tamar Ben Ephraim and Meital Gerty.

According to the study, the most common types of cancer for which medical marijuana is prescribed are lung cancer (21 percent ), breast cancer (12 percent ) and pancreatic cancer (10 percent ).

Researchers found that an average of 325 days passed between the time that patients were diagnosed with cancer and the time that they submitted permit requests to grow or possess medical marijuana. About 81 percent of those requests cited pain resulting from the illness. Some 8 percent of patients requested medical marijuana to combat nausea, while another 8 percent complained of weakness.

Michigan Court of Appeals sides with voters on Wyoming MI attempted ordinance
« Reply #249 on: August 01, 2012, 07:49:31 PM »

The Michigan Court of Appeals has overturned the Wyoming MI ordinance where they intended to keep all marijuana businesses out of town because it "went against the will of the voters"...

I wonder how they would feel about Monroe's "moratorium" 8* 8* 8*

Sounds like they have to create a reasonable area for it - or the courts will say anywhere is OK, based on the reading of the opinion.

What I found real interesting is the approach that since States can't be compelled to follow Federal Laws, (and in fact the fallout of the Justice Departments approach - claiming States can't enforce Federal Laws - by suing States to not enforce Immigration Federal laws...) The judges ruled immunity can be granted by the State Law.

“They have tried to cloak a marijuana ban in a city ordinance,” Ter Beek said today.
The three-judge appeals court panel ruled unanimously that the city ordinance conflicts with the state’s Medical Marijuana Act. It rejected the city’s argument that the state law contradicts a federal ban on marijuana, which is listed as a class one controlled substance.
“The (federal drug law) provisions do not preempt the MMMA’s grant of immunity as found (the Medical Marijuana Act) because it is well established that Congress cannot require the states to enforce federal law,” the court wrote. “Thus, while Congress can criminalize all uses of medical marijuana, it cannot require the states to do the same. Accordingly, Michigan is not required to criminalize all uses of medical marijuana and the immunity afforded to the medical use of marijuana by (state law).”
