At N. Dixie Kroger they said you can't use Kroger gift cards only other cards.
You can't use the cards to buy gas, but I believe you can buy the cards to buy groceries, and use the points that you get when you buy the cards to use towards your gasoline purchase.
That's not what we were told. They said you can't get gas points by buying Kroger gift cards only by buying other business cards. They do let you use Kroger cards for gas that's why they told us we couldn't get gas points for buying them. Maybe the manager I talked to didn't know what she was talking about. I don't know.
Tiny,

I believe that buying Kroger gift cards will NOT earn you points.  Buying another stores gift card is like buying a roast there is a profit built in.  Buying a Kroger gift card is just handing them your dollars for future purchases... no inherent profit margin there for them to offer you points.

My parents routinely buy gift cards of other retailers at Kroger, and I know my dad has not paid regular price for gas in quite a while.

This is a good example of the "ins and outs" of the Reward Program...

Yes, some parts of it are complicated and in some cases there are store employees that don't even understand the system completely.  And sometimes if you word a question wrong you're going to get a wrong answer.  If you're having trouble with some part of it please call the 1-800-KROGERS number.  You want to speak with someone in the Customer Loyalty department.  The will bend over backwards to explain or help you with your particular situation.

I asked my wife (20+ years of customer service for Kroger) about this...

jbs has it right.  When you purchase any other (I'm sure there is an exception, but generally) gift card you immediately receive Fuel Reward Points.  But if you purchase a Kroger gift card you don't get the points when you purchase it.  However, if the person who ends up using the gift card participates in the Fuel Rewards program THEY will receive the points if they use the card to purchase anything in the Rewards program (no, you don't earn points for buying fuel)!

If I know we need something from Lowe's I'll have her buy Lowe's Gift Cards before she heads home...   There are times when some of the gift cards earn up to 4X the face value in Rewards points.  So if someone has a big project at home and buys gift cards before they head for Lowe's and they're giving 4X the face value for the cards plus allowing you to redeem up to 2000 points for gas and your tank holds 35 gallons...   you'll be buying a lot of gasoline for about what it's worth for a month ;) ;) ;)

Prescriptions are also a great way to accumulate points...   even the cheapy $5.00 ones will get you 50 points.  If you're buying a lot of prescriptions every month (seems to happen as you get older) you'll rack up some points in the pharmacy too.

Any reason to raise prices is becoming the norm  :(

I'm not sure if this would offset speculator actions, but what if the Feds were to announce simultaneously to the drillers shutting down that they would release equivalent production quantities out of the Fed Reserve tanks until operations are resumed.

Maybe oil companies/refiners should stop selling to speculators and deliver the gas to their own stations like they use to.  Why pay some crook millions of dollars to buy and sell gas?

If an oil exec stubs his toe, the price of gas will rise... 8*

Here is the question about speculators: Should we get rid of it?

the intended purpose of speculation on the oil companies behalf is to remove volatility from the price they pay for the product. If we were to remove all speculation, then oil prices would most likely drop as a result, but potential volatility would also increase, and that would be a bad result for the companies as well. Most of these speculative contracts are settled in cash - simply because it is easier to and, honestly, makes more sense to cash settle.

It would have no affect what so ever.

What you propose could make things worse from our National Debt perspective. What if the oil they release from the Reserve was purchased at a lower price? What would it cost in todays inflated "dollars" for the government to purchase and replace what they release for consumption?

Go back one page and look at post #325.

The Obama Administration announced months ago that they are going to do a release from the strategic reserves....  In October.

Now - why would they wait for October?  Is there an election this year or something?

Everyone knows this is George Bush's and his rich oil tycoons fault.  Elect Obama and the gas prices will plummet.

By the way - what do you think prices will be once Israel and Iran go at it?  I have to think we will be nostalgic for $4 gas once the shooting starts.

I'm more concerned where they will be after the impending Federal Reserve fiasco called "QE3"!

We can, if need be, insulate ourselves from the Middle East and it's BS but we can't hide from the Federal Reserve monetizing half a TRILLION "dollars" of debt currency pushed into the economy.

The purpose of speculators in any market is to provide liquidity. Trading markets as currently established would collapse without the useful intermediary known as the speculator.

Should see them prices go back down soon - the Holiday weekend is over and they should have made enough to pay for any pipeline fixes by now...

BYRON CENTER, MI – A statewide group that opposes President Barack Obama’s energy policies hopes to prove its point Wednesday morning by selling gasoline for $1.84 a gallon.

Starting at 7:30 a.m., Americans for Prosperity-Michigan plans to sell gasoline at that price in 15-gallon allotments to the first 150 cars that show up, said Annie Patnaude, deputy state director for the group.

The event, part of the group’s “Obama’s Failing Agenda” bus tour, will be held at the Marathon station at 8391 Byron Center Avenue SW, Patnaude said.

She said they will begin pumping gasoline at the discounted price at 7:30 a.m. and continue until they have served about 150 customers.

The $1.84 price is the average pump price of gasoline on the day Obama was inaugurated, Patnaude said.
