They must think we are paying with Euro's...

Pay more here - because Greece and Spain and (enter next Euro bailout here) don't control their own monetary policy...   Nothing about supply and demand here!!!

I filled up my car this past Monday at the BP on Dixie near 75, it was $3.69. While at work I saw an article that stated gas had gone up $.16 recently. The gas stations must have seen it too, on the drive home both BP and Pilot raised it from $3.69 to $3.85. >:( >:( >:(

Same thing up here. 20 cent per gallon jump.
Aren't oil prices falling?

If any other business did this - someone would file price fixing collusion charges - if there is such a thing...  we just let it go on with the faint hope that the free market will someday happen again.

Gas Under $3: How Low Can It Go?

Seems like only yesterday U.S. motorists feared summer gas prices hitting $5 a gallon. Yet right now in some markets the price of gas is falling. In St. Louis, for example, at some stations, it’s $2.99. How much lower might it go?

Andrew Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates in Houston, says he expects to see the average price nationwide to fall to $3 a gallon by Halloween, “barring the Middle East imploding or exploding” or “a major hurricane impacting the Gulf coast.”

In South Carolina and in Houston, he says, the price of gas already is below $3. “In South Carolina, I’ve even seen $2.73 at some stations.”

What accounts for the decline?

The reasons, says Lipow, include a decline in oil prices, which have been falling for months. The supply of oil right now is abundant. Saudi rates of production, Lipow says, remain high. He expects them to remain high all summer. U.S. inventories are bigger now than at any time in the past 22 years.

The national gas price average for regular gas is $3.44, down nearly 10 cents from a week ago, according to the Department of Energy on Monday.  This price is also down nearly 14 cents from a year ago.

An embargo on Iranian crude begins this weekend; but the market, says Lipow, “is discounting any significant supply disruption that might result.”

Fuel is $2.99 @ Kroger in Lambertville.
Probably cheaper in Ohio.

With Gas Prices Expected To Drop Below $3, Republicans Suddenly Silent On Obama’s Role

Experts predict average gas prices may fall below $3 this fall after dropping 14 cents in two weeks. When prices hit a record high, Republicans attributed sole responsibility to President Obama, even though there is no evidence that factors like drilling impact what consumers pay.

Just two months ago, Republicans said Obama shouldered the blame for rising gas costs, and that only he had the “key” to lower gas prices:

Mitt Romney, March 18, 2012: “He gets full credit or blame for what’s happened in this economy, and what’s happened to gasoline prices under his watch, and what’s happened to our schools, and what’s happened to our military forces. All these things are his responsibility while he’s president.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), April 6, 2012: “The president holds the key to addressing the pain Ohioans are feeling at the gas pump and moving our nation away from its reliance on foreign energy. My question for the president is: what are you waiting for?”

Boehner, April 6, 2012: “The president’s own policies to date have made matters worse and driven up gas prices.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Feb. 28 2012: “This President will go to any length to drive up gas prices and pave the way for his ideological agenda.”

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), March 13, 2012: Obama is “fully responsible for what the American public is paying for gasoline.”

Are Republicans now reversing their rhetoric and giving Obama credit for falling gas prices? Of course not.

Former Virginia Sen. George Allen, who is running to reclaim his old seat, is another lawmaker who has misled on the gas prices. Last month, ThinkProgress reported that Allen is pushing a graphic that not only compares gas prices to an artificially low amount, but lists a “current” price from April, even though Virginia gas prices are now more than 40 cents lower per gallon.

Obama’s policies haven’t changed since April: the Keystone XL pipeline has not been built, drilling hasn’t drastically changed, and the same regulations are in place. Yet gas prices have fallen. Economics says he isn’t responsible, either way.

With Gas Prices Expected To Drop Below $3, Republicans Suddenly Silent On Obama’s Role
I imagine that the Republicans on the forum will be quiet about it too, until gas prices rise again, then once again, they will blame Obama.

Obama had nothing to do with gas prices going up, nor anything to do with them going down.

It may have to do with the Koch brothers selling off their gas futures to bolster Romney's campaign finances tho. ;)

6 Easy Ways to Fill Your Gas Tank for Less
This early burst of warm weather across the country is a reminder that summer, and peak driving season, is looming. But with gas prices already ticking over the $5 a gallon mark for regular, families are feeling the pinch in their budgets more than ever.

GasBuddy.com lets users report and view fuel prices in their area to help others find cheap gas locally. Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for the website, offered these tips for how you can fill up your gas tank and still save a few bucks.

1. Buying gasoline earlier in week. We find that prices typically rise during the week, but more so in the second half of the week, from Wednesday to Saturday.

2. Gasoline stations near the highway can be a win if there is more than one major truck or travel stop, or a loss if there’s only one station and it’s small in size.

3. Filling up near state lines will save you money, states are more competitive because of any difference in taxes. Shop before you drive, or use an app to find which side is cheaper.

4. Avoid filling up in ritzy or affluent areas- gas can cost more.

5. Fill up earlier in the day. Gasoline is cooler, and therefore more dense. There are devices to ensure accuracy to make sure cold volume is accurate, but when temperature rise, density of gasoline falls, and you get less — and there aren’t devices to check for less density.

6. Fill up in an area with many gasoline stations. Competition will keep prices lower.

There was a 54 cent difference in regular and diesel this afternoon at the Pilot by Alexis and 75.  Am I just noticing this today and it is always that much of a difference?

It pretty much depends on who the refineries want to soak that particular week/month.

I've seen it where the diesel prices are 40 cents more than gas, and I've seen it where they are 10 cents cheaper than gas.

There is no rhyme or reason.

Looks like the low gas prices didn't make it any further north than Lambertville.

big differential between Ohio and Michigan still this week...

Always wondered why no one has attempted a price fixing - collusion case/anti-trust monopoly against the oil companies.
They sure have an odd model of price fixing by regions that often has nothing to do with supply and demand.

We were hoping the $2.999 would last a little longer...  wanted to use 2000 Kroger Reward points and be able to fill up again at $.999 (or less) again :P :P :P

I still remember my own words one night many, many years ago talking about a late 70's or early 80's gas guzzling GMC 3/4 ton pickup I had at the time...

"I'll just park the sob if gas goes over $1.00 a gallon"...   note:  there might have been a little bit of alcohol involved in the conversation...   but that was way before they actually mixed it with the gasoline.

I still remember where I was the first time I paid more than $1/gal for gasoline.  Out near the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula...   Gas was $1.199 and I was just about on walk...   Only put in enough to get back to Traverse City where it was still $.979...

ahhhhh...  the good ol' days :D :D :D

Funny how much higher the prices are in this area compared to everywhere else

Gas prices drop, Republicans are silent
Republicans were hammering President Obama over high gas prices in the Spring. Now prices have dropped by 60 cents a gallon and Republican criticism has gone silent. Commodities Commissioner Bart Chilton and Democratic Strategist Bob Shrum join Ed Schultz to talk about the policy and politics behind gas prices.
