For those that believe in prayer, I would ask you to keep the family, especially those 2 innocent boys in your prayers.  God be with them and heal them.  I can't imagine the psychological impact it will have on these boys the rest of their life.  :'(

Where did the other news agencies get that the explosion was in a secluded, wooded area or under the I-75 overpass?  :o

There is frequently mis-information or non factual information at the beginning of some of these incidents.  Probably by the time some of the video and news crews heard about it and drove here from Detroit or Toledo it was dark.  And it looks like they had to stay back quite some distance from the actual scene.

And if you're from the 'big city' then it probably looks pretty desolate out there on Elm Street.

I was in the company cafeteria at lunch and they have the national Fox news station on. They were reporting on it and called it Moanroe.  8*

I just hope and pray they all pull through okay. And if they catch who did this, they lock them up and throw away the key.

From The Blade website...

He lives in North Shores in LaSalle Twsp. and the site was just east of the I-75  overpass.  If he was going north on 75 from LaSalle and got off on Elm it all fits together...

Photos from his law firm website and The Blade:

I looked over the photo above from the scene and this looks pretty close to where it must have happened...

It's a blessing it happened where it did. Imagine the catastrophie if it happened on I-75 or in downtown Monroe in a more populated area with more traffic.

Another release from the MEN:

Just got a tweet from The Blade...   they have a reporter "camped out" at the city police dept. waiting for another news update.  They were told it will be another 5-10 minutes.

You're right about that family man...   another minute of travel and they would have been right in a residential area.

I drove out there this afternoon.  It isn't just smoke on the pavement, the pavement actually burned.  My guess (without seeing the vehicle) is that the initial explosion probably severed the fuel line (which may be why it was placed on the passenger side of the car in the first place) and the fuel continued to pump out after the vehicle coasted to a stop or the driver braked it to a stop.  Especially if he didn't turn off the switch the fuel would have continued to pump out of the tank and onto the pavement until the wires powering the fuel pump (which are in the tank on many late model vehicles with fuel injection) burned through.
