I love the self-scan machines, especially at Kroger, Costco and Lowes.  I think it’s the control freak in me that loves not depending on anyone else.  And I do usually grab a stray cart in the parking lot and roll it in.  I don’t look at it as helping the store, but helping out the workers that would otherwise have to go out and chase the carts.
