Area banks other than BofA not likely to add on debit fees
« on: October 14, 2011, 06:53:57 AM »

The article is from The Blade but it looks like it covers most of the local banks except MB&T...

and I promise you if they add on fees you'll hear about it right here from me :( :( :(

So far it looks like BofA is going it alone...   the question of course is "for how long" ??? ??? ???

I don't feel loyalty to any company anymore.  If my bank does something I don't like, I have no problem pulling the money out and moving it somewhere else.

Me either. That's a thing of the past. It's glaringly obvious that the vast majority of companies don't care about their customers, especially banks. So if they mess up and do something stupid, screw 'em.

It wasn't that many years ago that you pretty much had to "bank locally"...

but now with all the ATMs and direct deposit and debit and credit cards and the internet it's become a thing of the past...

our trade association has a nationwide credit union that only has one physical location to serve the entire US...

and since I've always had more trouble getting money into the bank than I have getting it out...

you can easily do direct deposit of if you get an old fashioned check you can simply scan it and email it to them to deposit for you!!!   That's easier than driving down to the local ATM for me ;) ;) ;)

I have had great luck with E-Trade Bank and Ally Bank.  Their checking accounts pay interest, neither bank charges for debit cards and both allow use of any ATM in the United States with no fees.  Ally actually gives money back for using their debit card.  I still keep an account with B of A, but only use it to deposit checks (by ATM, of course) that I transfer to the online banks.  Fortunately, more and more companies pay by bank draft, so dealing with paper checks is becoming even more infrequent.  It’s been over a year since I’ve been inside a bank and I see no reason to visit one in the future.

Hopefully the backlash from fees and bailouts will kill a few of these greedy, non-customer friendly banks.

BINGO!

If you ask me, NOW is the time for smaller banks (are you listening, MB&T?) to push the fact they have NO fees!

I have an interest-bearing checking account with MB&T - I like it.  No minimum balance, but you have to two ACH payments a month, and a certain number of debits a month, which is no problem.

One night I finally got the courage to ask my mother why God had changed, why He was so angry with His children. “I don’t know,” she said as she tucked the covers around me. “I guess He just got tired of all the bullshlt.”

When we first moved to Monroe we went with MB&T.  My wife had worked for a similar sized "community bank" up in the central part of Michigan.  We eventually left over a stupid charge they had for something.  Went to Security Bank and were there for several years without any problems until they were "absorbed" and the new bank (don't even remember who now) closed all the ATMs on the south side of the River Raisin.  I even called to complain and the bimbo I got on the phone told me there were lots of ATMs in gas stations and party stores where my card would work that were south of the river 8* 8* 8*

We just left and went back to MB&T.  We have the same account livewire...   works for us just fine and we haven't had to pay a fee since we went back there.

About a year ago they did drop their Rewards Program on the debit card though :( :( :(  It wasn't the reason we went there in the first place but it was a nice "bonus" for staying there.

Our next move will be to my credit union through my work.

Here's an article from the Atlanta paper about people switching banks over fees...

I guess if you want a personal response all you have to do is start a petition that goes nationwide :-\ :-\ :-\

Read this table on the flight home last night in USA Today.  Appears to me that credit unions are the way to go.  We have been using MCCU since moving to town, and glad we did.

Good article on this topic plus there is a link you can search for banks in your area that provide the services you're looking for...

Banks Are Quietly Ramping Up Costs to Consumers

Even as Bank of America and other major lenders back away from charging customers to use their debit cards, many banks have been quietly imposing other new fees.
