Newt
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:06:08 PM »

Ya know, as far as actual ideas go, wether you agree or disagree with them, Newt has offered more than the other "bumper sticker" candidates combined.  I do think that his baggage will be forgiven and it will come down to Newt vs Mitt for the nom.

He's too wonkish and can't get soundbyte traction. It'll be a media-friendly underdog (currently Cain) versus Mitt, with Mitt eventually winning the nomination because he's safe and middle-ish.

Newt to me is too unpredictable, honestly I think he has a bi-polar personality. I agree with Lordfly, it will be Romney as the Republican nominee, but I don't think we'll win the election though.

I think the ecomony will start picking up, Europe will get out of the mess they are in now and Obama will win another term.

Things will remain exactly the same as they are now economically, if not get worse. No stimulus means endless unemployment and a forever rising deficit. Romney will not win because he'll be seen as "Obama Lite" by the conservative base, and his track record of flip-flopping will be mercilessly grilled by Obama's campaign team (if they have any sense in them, which is always doubtful).

This won't stop the "independent" conservative voters here from lining up behind him, though, in the coming months, like the good little party folk they are.

He won't get the family values vote. He'll be dead meat in Iowa's primary as a result. I've also heard his ground game as far as campaigning is crap, too.

Are all of you planning on crossing over and voting in the Republican Primary?  If not I don't see how Romney wins the nomination.

Look at his numbers - he has been stuck in the low to mid 20's since he started his campaign.  Others have moved up and down, but he has stayed stuck in the same place.

I think it is a major mistake to fall for the you have to run someone from the middle with no convictions to win argument.  If that was a good idea then we would be watching President McCain run through the primaries unopposed and we would be talking about who can challenge Hillary for the Democratic nomination.

Romney is clearly not a conservative - he is a classic progressive like many before him.  Not sure how much of the party is going to be willing to get behind a progressive.  It would once again give us the choice between Socialist (Obama) and Socialist Light (Romney/McCain/Many other Republicans).  I'm hoping for something better this election, and there are players in the field that fit the bill.

I think the main mistake Newt is making is being too combative to the press, especially in debates.  Instead of focusing on getting his message across he would rather jab the moderator.  It was funny at first, but it is just getting tiring at this point.  Doubt he wins over the CNBC "journalists" by verbally sparring with them.

I am also not sure how good Newt would be as a President / Chief Executive.  Not sure he would be a guy that could get people behind him...  He has a bit of an arrogant smart *** streak that I don't think would go over too well with the American People.

Who's your pick?

Undecided.

I have liked Newt for a long time, but this campaign is renewing my doubts about him.

Perry crashed and burned.  I think Governors can make great presidents, and he has years of experience in Texas, but he can't think on his feet and his platform is fuzzy at best.

I really like Cain and have since he entered the race, but too soon to throw support behind him.

Ron Paul is a Lunatic.  Romney is a liberal.  Santorum is booooring.  Bachman isn't very smart.  Not sure what to think of Huntsman.

Hey - we are still 1.5 months out from the first Primary.  We don't need to pick a candidate in November - do we?

Who's your pick?

I don't think anyone's pick counts. Obama wins in 2012.

I hope you never visit a country outside the US. If you consider Romney a progressive, you would literally shriek yourself to death if you talked to anyone in a civilized country. You may burst into flames.

I suggest never getting a passport.

I think the primary reason that McCain lost is because he agreed to have a lunatic like Sarah Palin as his running mate.

If he had had a credible running mate, he might have stood a chance.

Newt's problem is he is associated with Fox News and is demonized by the rest of the media.  I don't particularly care for him anyway.  I like Herman Cain because he seems to be the most honest of all of them and is not owned by the money guys of the republican party.  Obama is going to win because he has every group locked up but for the conservative white males.
