11-11-11-11 Veterans Day 2011

It started as Armistice Day...   celebrating the end of WW1 which ended when Germany surrendered on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.   So this year will be the first time we celebrate with another 11 8) 8) 8)

After WW2 it was changed (at least in the US) to Veterans Day as a way to honor all veterans and not just the ending of WW1 and those veteran.  Over the years we've added Korea and Vietnam and way too many more...   probably some that I can't even remember right now :-\ :-\ :-\

I would like to thank all the veterans that have served before and after I did my mere 21 months...

and also the active duty men and women of our Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and don't forget the US Coast Guard.

A special thanks to those who gave their lives and who were injured serving our country so we can all enjoy the freedoms we are entitled to...

and don't forget the POWs that never came home...

I intentionally left this out of the Politics thread...   

hopefully others will leave their partisan political comments out also 8* 8* 8*

I wish I could find one picture of me in my uniform!  I'd post it!  If anyone wants to come over and go thru all the pictures here to find one, they are more than welcome!

Yes, thank you to all that have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. And to my dad who was a veteran of WWII and who passed away 6 years ago today, I miss you. :'(

We went out to breakfast this morning and happened to sit down next to a young couple, the man was wearing fatigues. When they finished and stood up to leave, two older gentlemen came up to him to shake his hand and thank him. Warmed my heart.

Wow.  What a wonderful story.   

He was only 20 or 21 when he was shot down, taken/tortured by the Germans, survived to come home and raise a family of his own and continue to give to his country. 

Awesome.
