I've done the 3 day, and the 7 day packages through the Caribbean.  The 7 day one, although very enjoyable, was as long as I cared to be on the ship.  I imagine we are each a little different in how long each of us could handle it.

I wish you luck and tons of fun....you are hitting some great ports full of history.

I still want to look into this one further....looks fun to me.

According to the article it looks expensive compared to Carribean tours.

It's quite expensive compared to Carribean Cruises, however -- I like to think that this is just one more way for Michigan to stake it's rightful claim of having some of the most diverse  shorelines in the country -- the difference between Holland and Houghton are extreme, and while I can't afford to take a trip like this now (still a student and perpetually broke), I WOULD take one of these cruises before dumping monies into a Carribean cruise.

There used to be cruises all over the Great Lakes, back when the country was majority European-derived.  Who among the tourist crowds these days could imagine a pit-stop in Benton Harbor?  Green Bay?  Detoilet?  Those days are historical anachronisms which won't soon be repeated, or repeatable...

Just so you know, I'm pretty sure this country is still majority Europe-derived, although, as time goes by, YOU may feel a little more crowded. Good luck to you as that happens! When you become completely panic-stricken by what YOUR COUNTRY  has become, you might want to think about a ticket on a home-bound steamer!

[Bluthering idiocies of liberal derivation]

So you're of the mind that Great Lakes cruising by vacationing, tribalized 3rd Worlders could be a lucrative investment for your FedNotes or that such a venture would be doomed because dirty-rotten-racist-rich-white-folk wouldn't want to cruise to such ghettos as the aforementioned cities?  I'm unclear on the (presumed?) accusation(s)...

Ports of Call.....I'd still like to do it.  Not too many hell holes on these offerings.

That's a fabulous itinerary, Fuzz.  Now who among your neighbors do you think could afford such a cruise?  I can't think of a single one in the trailer parks or farms around Carleton...too many of 'em are unemployed at present.

I don't know the financial ability of my neighbors, sorry.

Not my point.....my point is that the Port of Calls are not big city slum areas.
