The more important point to me is that of an atheist trying to push a personal agenda...She doesn't believe, so no one else should be allowed...!

The school had an open policy towards religion, she was the exception in this matter trying to invoke a religious right for atheism.

You want me to say the death threats are wrong, OK, THEY ARE EXTREAMLY WRONG, but so was this girls actions in the first place.
I wouldn't say it was a personal agenda....the school violated the law...she didn't advocate atheistic banners....only asked that the school conform to the law.

Nor did she ask for others to give up their personal beliefs.

The way I look at it, the only reason her name was even mentioned was because of the threats.

You're not understanding what I'm saying... 8*

She, as an ATHEIST, (NOT AS A STUDENT AGAINST MIXING CHURCH AND STATE) made issue of the banner...!

She choose to pick atheism as a champion to the issue...That my friend IS a personal agenda!

The major religions have their holy days and accepted times and places of worship well established.

The public education calendar is also de facto for all public school students.

So your okay with the Muslim prayers on Madison Ave in NY city, in front of public this and public that? And your okay with the Muslim prayer in Dearborn that plays over the loud speaker throughout the ENTIRE city for EVERYONE to hear? It is only the prayer to God the Creator, and His Son Jesus that anyone gets upset about. Deny that and you are an ignorant fool!

Where are you getting this information?   I have been working in Dearborn for years and yet to hear any prayers playing over loud speakers.

I would suggest that you get your facts straight before throwing out the "F" word.

Um, no. I'm not okay with any form of public religious display. At all. None. Neither for or against. To me, religious beliefs are very private and should remain that way. It's a matter of being considerate of other humans. We live in a crowded world, and we're all individuals. What you believe is your fundamental right. What I believe is mine. No one should be imposing their beliefs on another at any time for any reason. Just as it's bad manners to be loud and obnoxious in public, or walking around naked, or having sex in broad daylight in the city park, publicly proclaiming one's beliefs as superior is unacceptable behavior because it offends other people and causes disharmony. jmo.

Here's your facts........

Despite objections, the Muslim prayer call will soon resound over loudspeakers all over Hamtramck, Michigan. From AP, with thanks to EPG and Cathy J. Palmer:

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. -- Over some residents' objections, the City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow a mosque to send out a call to prayer to Muslims on a loudspeaker.
The Bangladeshi al-Islah mosque asked for permission to air the Arabic call to prayer via loudspeakers five times a day, though it compromised by agreeing not to air the call before 6 a.m. or after 10 p.m.

Some Muslims say the call is the equivalent of church bells. Opponents argued that church bells have no religious significance and that allowing the Arabic call, which lasts less than two minutes, unfairly elevates Islam above other religions.

When the "founding fathers" wrote the first amendment to the constitution, they were reacting to the government from which they had just freed themselves. Nowhere in this amendment does it say "separation of church and state". It plainly says that the government cannot tell us what religion we must embrace. I'm pretty sure they didn't mean to say a small village could not erect a creche, or a menorah. Likewise, my reading of the first amendment does not give anyone the right to block off streets, overturn police cars , or spit on police.  It merely says that we can PEACEABLY assemble, and ask Our government leaders to listen to us. The fact that this amendment has been been so bastardized by the courts in no way detracts from what "The Framers" wanted our laws to be.

But not Dearborn, right?

Lol......is this the point? And yes, Dearborn. Numerous times Muslim call to prayer has been heard over speakers in Dearborn, MI.

"Shi'a Mosque...
The Islamic Centre of America in Dearborn, a Shi'a mosque frequented mostly by Lebanese Muslims, is the largest mosque in the US. The Centre's attractive website has several good photos: http://www.icofa.com/.
Mosques and Islamic Centres play an important role in the life of American Muslims. They are places of refuge and of rest; places where a Muslim can experience the Islamic community and learn about Islam. Many Muslims feel safer and more relaxed within the centres which are somewhat isolated from outside influences. Dearborn is one of the few places in the US where one can actually hear the call to prayer publicly over a loudspeaker." This came from 30-Days Prayer Network.

And yet, your first assertion was Dearborn, and your proof was  not Dearborn, but Hamtramk!

You are aware, are you not ,that Dearborn has a LARGE population of Muslims? It wouldn't surprise me to hear a call to prayer there. Just because you think that's wrong doesn't MAKE it wrong!

Hmm. So if this school had mostly Christians, would the banner be okay? And just because SOMEONE thinks this banner is wrong doesn't make it wrong either! Wow.

See #38.

I agree with that 100%. But what I'm saying is there is never any outcry like there is when talking about Jesus and God the Creator. Christmas can no longer be Christmas it's "holidays". The baby can no longer be associated in a manger scene. Tim Tebow is a horrible person......Under God in the pledge......etc. etc. etc. Nobody cares that muslims pray publicly FIVE times a day though!!

It doesn't bother me, I do not have to partake in it nor are they forcing me to. Nobody was forcing this atheist to believe in God. Ignore the banner, get a boyfriend, have a life!
