Has anyone heard if they're making any progress on this?

Authorities release more audio samples of false distress calls
http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/1658055/Coast-Guard-Investigative-Service-Crime-Stoppers-of-Michigan-offer-reward-for-help-with-finding-origin-of-false-distress-calls-in-Lake-Erie

The agencies are releasing audio recordings of some of the radio distress calls.  Authorities hope someone will recognize the voice on the audio clips.

Just curious reading the fine print about the anonymous tip line.

If it's anonymous - how do they know who to give the reward to?

I guess its not as bad as informing on a drug dealer who will retaliate - but the legal system is not fully trusted to keep the persons name out of the "system" in some cases.

Now to set up the triangulation device in my tricorder to scan for their next transmission.

It is like the drug enforcement tip lines... you can give contact info and it is protected as "annonymous".

I hope that person goes into a deep ditch and no one finds him for a few days.  Not deep enough to kill him but deep enough to keep him from view for a day or two with a dead cell phone battery...  You know just enough time to "reflect" on his choices!

Also my initial reaction would be... if you cannot tell me who you are or where you launched from.... "Hope you can swim"!!!

Did I suggest that?

Name... Where they launched from... Not a single mention of GPS coordinates.

Were you making a half hearted attempt at suggesting that knowing ones name and general idea of where they are is too much to ask in an emergency?  Last I checked boat radios are not like cell phones which 911 can lock onto almost immediately when you call for help.
