Here is the hummingbird cam:  http://www.ustream.tv/worldofhummingbirds

They are off-line in the early morning; not sure when the video actually starts each day.  I think the cam makes them look much bigger than they are.  Enjoy!

A second young one made it to the branch yesterday.   One more to go.

The cam will shut down on June 30 to make improvements for next year.
----
Adding to this, one of the eaglets has fledged!   Flown off to explore, but will return to the nest for a bit longer.   Sad and happy at the same time!

The third eaglet has branched (yesterday) !

Thanks again to Tiny for introducing me/us to the Decorah nest cam.  It has been great watching them from a tiny pip to flying off.

Well, I guess it's official.  The camera is poised on an empty nest.   :'(

I can't believe how fast they grew.

This is the second group of eaglets I've watched and it was just as amazing as the first.

If anyone missed it, either by choice or opportunity, I encourage you to watch next season.  It really is a cool thing and very easy to get hooked on.

The social stream chatters are also saying goodbye until next season.  There was a real community watching and caring for these babies and the watchful parents.

Nature. . . . . Very cool!

I wonder if by "taken down" that means someone will physically climb up there and remove the camera or just if they'll drop the feed...

seems like climbing up there might tend to upset mom and dad eagle a bit :-\ :-\ :-\

Cameras will be shut off 8pm Cental Time tonight.  Was a great watch.   I look forward to even better viewing next year.

I imagine they will go up there, since the "learning to fly" routine knocked the camera off-kilter and the night infrared cam isn't working.

According to their web page:
"We'll use the off season to test and install new cameras, computers, and audio equipment for the 2013 nesting season, build and deploy peregrine and kestrel nest boxes, and begin our pilot kestrel program"

I agree!  Just a 4 month wait until we start a new "family".

By the way, I believe they hope to put a tracker on one of these new ones.   I can't imagine how they do that.

D14 looks like she's wearing a little back pack now.

For those that are anxious to get back to eaglet watching...

they're hatching in Florida now and here's another camera set up...

This looks to be in a much more populated area near Ft. Myers.  You can see cars and motorcycles going past on the street below.

Wow!  That nest is very close to a highly travelled road.  Not like the Decorah nest.

She (I'm assuming it's Mom I'm looking at) seems to be aware of the camera by looking at it often.

But, that is a LOT of traffic right below the nest.

There is a nest in Oak Harbor on Rte 2 that is very close to a house.  We are often curious as to why the bird built its nest so close to a busy road and all but right over a house.  But it did.

I was looking for info on the precise location so I could check it on a map...  haven't found that yet but did see this:

Quote
Visit our facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestFloridaEagleCam and tell us what you think!

First egg was laid on November 26 at 1:47 pm.

Second egg was laid on November 29 at 6:38 pm.

History of chicks at this nest...2011/12 - 1 chick, 2010/11 - 1 chick,2009/10 - 1 chicks, 2008/09 - 2 chicks

The eagles have had their names ever since they moved onto the property in 2007/08. Ozzie and Harriet

The nest resides 60 feet above the ground, in a Slash Pine tree. The camera faces South East.

Nesting season begins here in South FL Oct. 1. The eagles stay until late April or May.

These bald eagles have been coming to this nest for the past 5 years. They reside in this nest between the months of October and April. Before building this nest in 2006/07, the pair had a nest on the opposite side of Bayshore Road. This location is now known as Eagle Landing. This mature, mating pair continue to make Southwest Florida their winter home.

This year, DPRE is excited to have a live look into their Southwest Florida nest. We have installed a camera that will film the birds 24/7 and stream live video directly to this site. The camera is positioned 6 feet above the nest. It is attached to a tree limb using no screws or nails in order to preserve the tree. The camera's night vision is an infrared light which emits no actual light. Nor does it make any noise. The birds do not see or hear anything coming from the camera.

The objective of this camera is to bring these beautiful birds into our homes. The goal of DPRE is to foster appreciation, admiration and respect for these magnificent creatures. Our intentions are to learn from these birds so we may better understand them and their habits.

This nest is labeled LEO26B of the Florida State Monitoring Program. It has been monitored for 5 years. The first year was when the nest was across the street in 2007. The pair relocated the nest in 2006/07 to its present location. There are 133 nests in a 25 mile radius. Closet nest is one mile.
