"stand your ground" is poorly named. what is wrong with "self-defense"?

That's because the liberals and the media deems it so...

It arose because the self defense laws had flaws,   
Nothing is going to cover every type of incident - but making law abiding citizens retreat in there own homes was the last straw that created the legislation like "stand your ground"...

We can't legislate common sense so we have to try to create a law that provides for it in legalese.
 

Conservatives think self defense,  Eric Holder thinks it's preposterous although he seems to be standing his ground, now that he's on the wrong side of a gun issue

Texas Man Found Guilty for Killing Neighbor in Dispute

A jury has convicted a Texas man for murdering his neighbor during a confrontation over loud music two years ago, rejecting a claim that he was within his rights to fatally shoot the man under Texas' version of a "stand-your-ground" law.

SANFORD — Trayvon Martin's girlfriend, the state's most important witness in the George Zimmerman murder case, was caught in a lie, it was revealed Tuesday.

It was not the first piece of misinformation tied to her, but it was the most damaging to date and left prosecutors in a very awkward position.

They had to publicly acknowledge that their star witness had lied under oath and had to answer questions about what they intend to do about it.

Reporters asked: Will you charge the 19-year-old Miami woman with perjury?

The state's lead prosecutor, Bernie de la Rionda, gave an ambiguous answer: "You can all read the law and make your own decision."

I think Pres. Clinton would disagree.  Telling a lie on a legal document is pretty serious.  In this instance I would bet this was done because she is 19 and Mr. Martin was 16.
