Goodnough not running for sheriff
« Reply #15 on: March 13, 2012, 01:20:23 PM »

There's been a redistricting of County Commissioner districts so there will be some new faces running.
Troy Goodnuff wants to run for Sheriff but Tillman instituted a policy that prohibits him from running unless he resigns which is more than likely an illegal condition. Tillman won't declare if he is running until Troy decides what he is going to do. Word is that the Sherriff will be at the Clerks office with his paperwork in hand to run and if Troy shows up to file his paperwork then the Sherriff will run again. If Troy doesn't show up to file on time then the Sherriff does not intend to run again.

I always thought Tillman was an excellent sheriff and an honorable man until I witnessed how he treated Troy after he announced his run last election and how he is treating him now. Anyone should have the right to run for elected office without petty interference from the incumbent.

County Commissioner for the Raisinville,London, Milan and I believe Exeter district doesn't have a candidate. With redistricting, Dave Hoffman isn't in his old district anymore.

I'm no defender of Crutchfield by any means but this article from the MEN today explains this in more detail...

I don't think the current sheriff instituted a policy as such...

however he may have intentionally kept Goodnough in his current position of having to administer the federal funds so that Goodnough would continue to remain ineligible :-\ :-\ :-\

Three people have already announced they are candidates to challenge Arnold for Probate Judge.  With a $140K+ salary and generous benefits, that's a pretty good job for a lot of the lawyers in this town.

Plus its a job for life - as no one runs against an incumbent judge in the county (unwritten rule I guess)

It will be interesting to see the names appear - up until May.
I hadn't seen any news on county redistricting - I will have to check and see what the new maps look like.

That’s why I was surprised that people are running against Arnold.  Maybe they figure just over a year in office doesn’t give him the usual incumbent’s advantage.

A few weeks to go - still haven't heard a lot on who's running for what...
I think I know someone for road commission - but he's not finalized yet.

You'd think with the Summerfield issues on bikes there may be a challenge there.

Sheriff has a few,
Judge has a few,
County clerk - announced she is running
Actually haven't heard incumbents that are not other than the Sheriff...

Two-term Democrat Albert Potratz will run again for the District 3 seat on the Monroe County Board of Commissioners.
The 67-year-old Flat Rock resident says he has no agenda in seeking re-election other than to represent his friends and neighbors in the county’s northeastern district, which includes Ash and Berlin Townships and the Villages of Carleton; Estral Beach and South Rockwood.

Well, who's in the races? Local politics affect us more than national issues.Especially since we can actually talk to these politicians.

I was thinking of it - but was notified that Mark Brandt - former twp supervisor/business owner is running for the vacant county commission seat, and I can't afford to spend the $$ he can on advertising.

So Brant is running as a republican in the open seat for District 2. He's running against a 29 year old Democrat named Jamie Fick who lives with his parents in Raisinville twp.  Instead of a Hick or Fick ticket it is going to be a Brant or Fick ticket.
Any other news about last minute filers ?
There's got to be some surprises !!

Hmm  must be a neighbor or opponent   8*

Usually where a candidate lives isn't part of the qualifications other than residency.
Did the petition  state "lives with parents" at 123 street?

His dad is a bailiff for one of the judges. Everybody at the courthouse knows his son is running and lives with him. You have to live in the district that you hope to represent so the fact that he lives in Raisinville twp matters because where you live is part of the qualification. Brant lives in Raisinville twp too if that makes you feel better.

I think he is questioning why it is important that he lives with his parents.

Ah I see !! Didn't mean to put emphasis on that fact. That's just how I know him. Through his dad actually who was a City of Monroe cop till his retirement then went to work as a bailiff at the courthouse. I believe his son used to be a corrections officer at the county jail.
