Fascism Advancing

"A bill authored by a Southland lawmaker that could potentially allow the federal government to prevent any Americans who owe back taxes from traveling outside the U.S. is one step closer to becoming law."

I'm not sure exactly what your problem with this concept is JL...

in all my years I've only encountered two groups of people in this situation...

the ones that owed and couldn't pay and the ones that owed because they just refused to pay.

I'm guessing the ones that "can't pay" probably don't have any desire to be leaving the good ol' US of A until they have fulfilled their patriotic duty and paid their taxes.

Besides in most cases it takes quite a bit of money to travel abroad so they probably don't have that either or they would have paid their taxes.

So that only leaves the other group...  the ones who have the money and for whatever reason are refusing to pay.  (Which by the way means YOU and I have to pay higher taxes to cover their sorry a**!)

So, if someone is refusing to pay their taxes what are the reasons they should be allowed to travel abroad?  If you actually read your own posted article you would have seen that there are safeguard provisions built in if needed...

but I'm thinking you were too busy trying to come up with a catchy title and just didn't even bother reading the whole article...

Probably more like what kind of a catchy word can I put in the subject line that will help scare the masses...

and since the original article doesn't use the word anywhere then the FASCISM word is something you came up with all on your own...

real classy JL :o :o :o

The bill does allow for exceptions in the event of emergency or humanitarian situations or limited return travel to the U.S., or in cases when any tax debt is currently being repaid in a “timely manner” or when collection efforts have been suspended.

If you want real fasciscm advancing, look at Hungary. Just because you need to pay taxes doesn't make it fascism.

someone might not want to pay taxes because they don't want to:

1. fund the killing of innocent foreigners
2. fund the starving of people in foreign land through sanctions
3. pay to cover the losses of wealthy businessmen who made bad decisions and financially harmed others
4. fund people's expensive hobbies under the guise of science
5. forcefully prevent people from ingesting particular substances
6. forcefully prevent people from owning particular plants, thereby fueling a massive underground black market with the resulting gang violence
7. pay for services which they don't want/need or which is against their beliefs
8. pay to create/train agencies, build fences, acquire weapons to ensure that enough money is extracted from people to fund the above activities.
9. etc.

we've gone over this before.  taxation is theft because it is involuntary.  once people can admit that, then this measure is exposed as a desperate attempt by a struggling criminal mob to squeeze as much from the tax cattle as possible.

You probably have gone over it before...

maybe hundreds of times...

now if you'd just get out there and work a little harder and pay a few more dollars in taxes you'd probably

1. enjoy life a little more
2. be able to provide more for your family
3. have a lot less stress in your life
4. be able to travel anywhere you want because you won't be in financial debt to this great country...

btw, if you really understood what fascism is you'd realize that in a fascist country they wouldn't have to make laws like this...

they'd just walk up and grab you and put you against a wall...

a few guys with AK-47s pointed at you would be the last sight you'd ever see :o :o :o

Get out and actually contribute something to society JL...

you'll feel better for it in the long run :) :)

by any chance does the "L" in JL stand for Looney???

Here's something you might enjoy...   will take your mind off all of the above ;) ;) ;)

it could be worse fallacy

Hungary is worse therefore you cannot complain about the US <=>  you could have been shot, so I don't want to hear your complaints about being stabbed.

I think you should be a bit more honest with your second statement.  what you meant was, "Just because you are FORCED to pay taxes..."  Without the deliberately misleading wording it becomes evident that your statement is self-defeating.

I'm not sure where to begin with something like this.  there was not a shred of argument in that.  it was a bunch of criticism based on conjecture -- all of which was entirely off-base.  I assume it's because you want to avoid the crux of the issue which is that taxation is not voluntary --> taxation is immoral --> preventing people from leaving an area because they have eluded theft is an escalation of the violence.

JL...   in case you haven't heard the expression before...   The US of A is the "land of opportunity"...

What you need to do is get out there and take advantage of the opportunities that abound...

personally I love it when I have to pay more taxes than I did the year before...

it means I made more money 8) 8) 8)

By any chance are you the guy that stands with the cardboard sign at Dunbar & Dixie?

He's looking for a "free ride" too 8* 8* 8*

To a very narrow minded group it probably is...

I'm going to leave you alone to stew over it as you see fit...

I've got work to do...   I have to write a check to pay my taxes next week :) :) :)

questions for you:

1.  at what tax rate would you no longer consider it the land of opportunity and get excited about having your money taken?  70%?  90%?

2.  if you love paying more taxes, is it because you love the activities it funds, such as:

Quote
1. fund the killing of innocent foreigners
2. fund the starving of people in foreign land through sanctions
3. pay to cover the losses of wealthy businessmen who made bad decisions and financially harmed others
4. fund people's expensive hobbies under the guise of science
5. forcefully prevent people from ingesting particular substances
6. forcefully prevent people from owning particular plants, thereby fueling a massive underground black market with the resulting gang violence
7. pay for services which they don't want/need or which is against their beliefs
8. pay to create/train agencies, build fences, acquire weapons to ensure that enough money is extracted from people to fund the above activities.
9. etc.

3. if you love paying taxes, then isn't that really a charitable conrtibution and no t taxation at all?  and why don't you give more?

i'm not sure why I post things here, thinking there will be any meaningful discussion.  why are people afraid to think?
