Phone Apps
« on: April 18, 2012, 10:58:33 AM »

Play Store came with the phone. good for Apps, Music, Books and Movies. Not a lot of Free Apps and such.

Zedge is a good for Wallpapers, Ringtones and Notification Sounds. They have a list at the beginning but you can search for certain songs or sounds. A lot of Free downloads.

I like the weather apps (The Weather Channel & Weatherbug).
"Radar Now" is also good for current weather radar.
"Scanner Radio" is for police/emergency locally or when you travel.
"Brightest Flashlight Free" App has been very useful already.

Any recomendations for App sites or Apps?

I have an iPhone and one of my favorite apps is Night Sky. You just point your phone at the sky (or the ground) and it will show you the planets and constellations that you're pointing toward, sort of like a nifty viewfinder. It will also show the satellites.

WeatherBug is a good one. I used to use the NOAA website to check for hazardous weather, but their formatting sux for viewing on a phone. WeatherBug is perfect for that! I also have a program called White Noise. I use this when my dorky neighbors decide to get their groove on to extremely loud music on Sunday nights at 10PM.  >:(  The program is cool because you can create your own blends. Last one I used was a combination of crickets, a campfire, and a cat purring. Put me right to sleep.

Beyond those, I have the standard Netflix, Hulu Plus, Angry Birds, etc. I'm a newbie at smartphones, so I'm just beginning to get a feel for what all is out there. One fun little thing I found is called FingerDrums. Pretty much self explanatory, you can play a full drum set with your fingertips. Silly little time waster.

Wow! If the phone rings and I can have a conversation with who's calling without one or the other provider dropping the call,I'm happy as a lark. I don't need a phone that goes to the grocery for me! Wit, charm, and insight enough for ya? (smilie here)!!

Monroe Michigan, Yep, there's an app for that. I got on "Play Store" app and I thought I would type in Monroe Michigan to see what would happen.
It loads by showing the Custer statue. It shows Places, Monroe Events, Volunteer Here, Sales Events, Monroe News, Activity, Shout, Audio Casts, Check In and Sign In.
Looks like you can sign up and take part in the Check In, Shout & Activity.

Just saw one for business travelers - that keeps a mileage  log and IRS compliant forms   and separates business and pleasure trips...  MileIQ

Other apps:
One cool thing - UofM's Engineering daily pics/articles
Growers edge - for crop price info in the area
Star Map
Google Earth
Walgreen - you can send pics from your phone to be printed and pick up later
